since a yaoi story moved me and had my heart flutter....
This one unexpectedly surpassed its sequels by miles and gave me dokidoki moments every chapter till the very end.
It didn't unnecessarily linger on the popular "but you're not gay!" aspect but redeemed two hopeless individuals who happened (ya ya sneaky Haru!) to meet via a shared friend.
I feel like I would enjoy even many more sequels of this couple in particular. And I really hope Minaduki Sensei has them pop up someplace, so we can catch up with their hopefully happy life together

Edit: and i just found out there is a sequel. I can die happy now

I just reread this series again. love it to bits.

the chemistry of the characters is really great. I really love Masato and sympathize with his backstory. I also think it's appropriate that he had to answer for his bad behavior, even though he felt remorseful. I think it was an appropriate way to create "drama" without resorting to the standard misunderstandings and communication issues. That felt way more believable and I probably would have reacted the same as he did if I were in the same situation (I kinda was at one point in my life. feels bad man)

I just love cohabitation manga. the sexual tension is always on point, and this manga doesn't disappoint AT ALL. love love love all the desperate kisses and pining going on. and the characters are adults and act like it! I'm very satisfied.

I can only praise this manga, amazing art (the guys here actually look like men <3), likable characters with complex personalities and a very good story with believable pace. I like that they did not fall in love at first sight and they actually got to know each other. The straight seme had a background story to make him lean towards another guy. This was a very nice touch. While the uke got to face his past mistakes and try to atone for them, we get some angst from him. I really really love and recommend this piece

The translation..

I feel like I couldn't fully understand this manga and its dialogues because it's obvious the English translator of the version I read isn't a fluent speaker and there are quite a few spots in their translation that aren't grammatically correct, or worse, don't even make much sense. Which makes it impossible to completely enjoy reading this even if I wanted to; the wordy and faulty texts became just a bit too distracting at some point. A shame.

Better on reread

Honestly, this is not my favorite pairing within this series/by this mangaka - I didn't really feel the chemistry between them on first read, nor did I really like the characters. The Naru-as-plot-twist-and-drama-creator made suspension of disbelief difficult. Some of the conflicts could have been created more believably if they weren't so predicated on Naru being a nearly omnipotent/omniscient manipulator with perfect timing.

Despite this, I think the manga is overall well done. On reread, I think there is more subtle buildup to their relationship than I picked up the first time, and the MCs are more psychologically complex than most - I think the mangaka really hit her stride with respect to character development here (vs her prior works). The topic of "learning to love again after being hurt" is addressed well considering that Love Nest is only two volumes long - it's not just "oh I met the right person and now I can love again," and the two characters have very different reasons for having been heartbroken in the past.

I appreciated this title more on reread, because I knew what the jarring plot twists were going to be and could focus on the character development and gradual unfurling of the MCs' backstories and emotional progression.

I literally don’t understand why anyone likes this

Seriously, why do people like this? The art is the only redeeming quality. The plot is worse than generic. The characters are one-demential and boring. And the MELODRAMA!

It’s hard to fathom how a story can be this long and this depthless. Having experienced heartbreak in the past is not enough to make a character interesting. The complete lack of development between the seme and the uke before they sleep with each other is surprising, particularly considering how long it takes in terms of chapters. And then the plot twist! Ugh. Maybe I would have found that diverting 15 years ago, but at this point it’s tedious and the last thing the plot needs if this romance is going to be believable AT ALL. Disappointing.
