It's dumb fun.
by Krazyguy75

Rating: 9.0  / 10.0
"Most people who appreciate this falls in the reasoning of "It's dumb fun", i'm not one of them"

That was a quote from another reviewer. This guy clearly falls into the category of "people who go to parties, sit alone, and read a book". The kind of people who don't enjoy anything and would rather be serious and depressing all day.

Because this is fun. It's by far the most consistently fun manga I've read. It ain't gonna widen your mind with brilliant philosophy like that other review said it would, but you'll end every chapter smiling and thinking "man, that was fun, I can't wait for the next one".

Despite being so consistently fun, the overall themes aren't always the brightest; good people often die to establish that the villains are evil, and while the villains are usually comically evil, they are still hateable all the same, which makes the MC dragging their face around an entire moon just as satisfying.

On that topic, the MC is completely bonkers OP, but he does so in a style more resemblant of one punch man than most OP MCs in that a lot of the fights don't include the MC and the MC usually just shows up for the ending. That said, the MC isn't Saitama. He's weaker (on an extremely relative scale), smarter, and less focused on being comic relief (though he does provide plenty of humor as well), and unlike Saitama he has goals and motivations.

Basically, if you are one of the people who doesn't like fun or humor and prefers to be depressing and lonely, get some help, fix your attitude, and then read this. Because this is fun. And if you aren't having fun reading this, the problem isn't with the novel but rather with you taking yourself way too seriously.

EDIT: More recent chapters have sadly fallen in quality. Arcs take forever to resolve. The MC basically sits out of all the conflicts.

One of the best and enlightening comic series out there

Not sure why some people in the reviews call this a dumb series. I was captivated from chapter one so I don't see any part where it is really dumb. In short, the protagonist has a really high intelligence and pride who encountered failure many many times. However, he sticks true to his principles and finally obtained great power.

It might not be obvious to many people, but the MC's personality is truly rare in comic series yet very realistic. People who are intelligent yet not in a good family are despised and looked down upon, not given chances even when they clearly have skills, like Mu Siyun. And people who have connections, especially from family, can be corrupt and wholly incapable of controlling great power.

Mu Siyun said something incredible: with great power comes great responsibility (quote from spiderman) but with great responsibility comes great power. It's a bit confusing, but look at it this way. If you have great responsibility, then stakeholders might want to learn in to offer help because your success might benefit them, while your failure might harm them. The crux is know what kind of help to accept or refuse, and when as well.

Story I give 13/10

Locomotive start.

Like a steam engine, the story needs time to build up sufficient steam to really get someone invested. That being said, around chapters 10-11 we start to see the really interesting developments and I look forward every day to see if the translator has updated the next chapter. The fight scenes can get a bit confusing, but it has a great mix of grim dystopias, humor and over the combat one might expect of a gundam anime that just keeps pulling me back in

Getting steadily better.

Takes several chapters to really get going. I only really got interested around chapter 10/11. Grim sci-fi dystopia with high tech soldiers fighting aliens for planets and resources. Feels a lot like a Warhammer 40k manhua almost plus some sporadic humor. Art is well done although battle scenes can be a bit confusing. The main character starts off weak but is developing fairly well. After getting lost for the first few chapters I've gotten a feel for the characters and look forward to seeing where it goes. I can see some criticism from people who don't like the genre or were expecting more harem focus (The summary makes it sound more like a hentai) but have no idea what the people rating it 2/3 were reading. If they actually gave it a chance it's nowhere near that bad.

A surprisingly deep story beneath the surface of good CG art and violence scenes

Read till chapter 320s
Btw this is an original manhua, there is no novel it is adapted from. This does have implications that the story is paced as intended by the writers + other such stuff that is a result of original works.

The good parts-

While i'd like to not repeat what @Dunkjoe (April 4th, 2019) Already said, it still does need to be said that the MC is quite compelling. He wants to do what is right while also not becoming the very evil he's going against. He does have a backbone. There's also the part where he's a highly competent guy but because he was lacking connections and 'status' he didn't get a good job, and because of that he'd rather stay jobless. A key part of the story is that only women can take these 'nanobots' a trope which predictably gets subverted for just the MC and its still done great even when you see it coming a mile away.

Multiple comments points out that the start was completely random and he lucks into it but it really was not.
Let me tell you, the synopsis which literally states " Mu Siyun sent his resume to a galactic fleet on a whim and somehow became its Fleet Admiral!"
is lying to you.

This was not a whim at all, it was a carefully planned process by the heads of state, the council of elders that is at the very top of 'earth federation' (forgot the name), for heaven's sake, the very girl (the fleet's most powerful fighter) in the advertisement just "happened" to be right outside his door to recruit him as the fleet admiral? And somehow he was the *only* applicant? No, more like, he was the only one who saw the advertisement in the first place because it was all an elaborate plan.

You don't have to take my word for it, the story hints on this later when the council's existence is introduced.

This council of elders also has a similar dilemma, they want to put competent people in charge (like the MC) but face opposition from the entrenched powers and different 'corporations' that threaten to split off by having their own military and whatnot.
This does lead to some bad points of the story but i'll elaborate later.

Another good point of the story is the art. It is really good and makes quite nice use of CG.
But let it not be said that it's simple to parse by any means. The design of the 'mechs' makes no sense. You can't tell whats supposed to be teeth or missile or just random decorations or what the hell is even going on in the fight scenes.
Which transitions into

The bad parts.

The art is nice but confusing, that much i've already said. But the story itself is also very convoluted. If you made a mental model of what the hell is even going on in the organizational structure of this place, that the 'earth federation' has multiple fleets that compete with each other for funding, that private companies fund them. That the fleets may not even be loyal to the federation in the first place. That people own entire planets and run them as they like.

There is a severely lacking sense of space. Movement causes no delay unless it does. The enemy and allies teleport all over the galaxy with no regard for distance, not that you even understand how the map is laid out in the first place. Locations just 'exist'. An entire planet is basically covered by 1 giant city. There's also cities just existing on spaceships that randomly are floating somewhere. Where exactly? dont ask, and it doesnt matter.

somehow despite being martially powerful, women are still oppressed housewives. I did read that comment which stated this and actually.. its kind of true. Other than the fact that some of them are just mentally a captive to a nonsensical relationship or hostage or whatever the hell else it is. Some of them are actually strong both physically and mentally (and not some captive or bullied housewife) so this one's 50-50. It adds up story-wise but its still cheap none the less.

The villains are slimy. I dont know where someone got that villains just throw themselves at the MC because they clearly dont. They keep getting away, slipping right away from the MC who may or may not be just waiting for an opportune strategic moment which is made clear only at the very end. It is very frustrating to see the first big villain keep getting away for hundreds of chapters before he's finally caught, cause at that point you expect him to get away yet again in some cheap maneuver.

Anyways been a month since i read it but it really was great while i was reading it.
9 out of 10.
Give it a fair chance and it might just impress you with some of its deeper themes.

Irresponsible Captain Tailor goes Super Saiyan
by Jerberus

Synopsis: If you liked anime "The Irresponsible Captain Taylor", then this is probably up your alley.
Dude with a liberal arts degree applies to the space force because of a hot chick in an advertisement.
By dumb luck, he gets promoted to Fleet Admiral quickly. Dude goes Super-Saiyan because of some bullies dropping him in a vat of super-goo. Strong peasants meet strong nobles with force trying to bridge the wage/class gap.

Cons: This manga claims to be ecchi, but I haven't seen any ecchi as of chapter 146. Chapters are uber-short, like max 15 pages per chapter, averaging maybe 10 pages per chapter. The manhua has unrealistic ideas about how quickly space can be conquered.

Pros: Full-color. Beautiful women, blood/gore. Decent plot.

Doesn't take a genius to know this manhua is pretty much dumb. Below average ratings across the board. Even the mediocre and cliche xianxia/xuanhuan manhuas put up a more interesting read. Nothing redeeming qualities about this. All in all the point of this manhua is to satisfy ones delusional chuunibyou needs. Not saying its wrong so read it if you got an itch to scratch.

Gloriously Dumb Wuxia
by dragonlord7012

Rating: 8.0  / 10.0
Up front. There is nothing brillaint about this manga. It is really stupid. The main protagonists is introduced as a "little guy" who lucks into a fleet. Fortunately for him he flips on his Wuxia Protagonist Mode and starts violently murding comicly evil people, and "fighten for teh poor" , with remarkably little character development.

Look, It's dumb. It's really dumb. The Wuxia Protagonist Mode is so damn high that your suspension of disbelief is only going to stop screaming because its voice has given out completely. The villains who lack anything resembling common sense/reason and typically can be spotted by how ugly they are. Most everything looks like a blend of Chinese and something an edgy teen would think looks cool and sci-fi-y. They also can get very detailed, and always at least look visually interesting. Its a guilty pleasure, but at least its pretty, and it has some funny moments and is a decent guilty pleasure.
