Canon Camera Cover Girl

[as of chapter 105]

“Lady Baby” is mug shot the manhwa. Generally gorgeous mug shots at that (besides the most recent time skip which appears to have inflated our heroines head to air balloon proportions. Carry her away!). A lack of attractive background art and shots outwith those depicting the most basic of perspectives is not unusual among the average production in this genre. Which is pretty much where I would put “Lady Baby”. It’s quite compelling in it’s moments, and I can’t deny the saccharine charm of the sycophants who surround the MC, but have we covered 105 chapters worth? This speaks to the confused chronology in general – she had quite the active stint as a 5 year old and then woooooosh, 7 years have past baby. Could this not have been spaced more competently? I know it’s setting up for a bunch of converging story lines years down the line, but that doesn’t necessitate such a clumsy handling of the plots broader sense. There’s a lot of crowding with all these pretty kids, and more time is spent on lavishing the MC with their good will than moving the central plot forward than I would prefer. There are another 14 chapters out at the moment but the translation and scans have taken a nose dive in quality in the last 10-15 chapters so I will abate my reading for now. “Lady Baby” stands as a worthwhile read, but not one I will think about for any length of time after.

Disappointing, and BORING

I had high expectations for this one but I was very disappointed.

The premise was very promising. Mysterious murders to solve while being a child ? Sign me up !!
I expected schemes, political issues, influence and power struggles... But we only got a teaspoon of it 🙁
I don’t mind slow paced stories, because it helps exploring properly the different parts of an intricate plot, and because it allows us to understand better the different characters, their interactions and their relevance. But here, it had no contribution to the actual plot, it was like filler episodes. I didn’t mind it so much at first, thinking the plot would pick up later, but even after a time skip, it didn’t. Not only we were back to children plays, we also began to have strange mc involvements and it only got more and more confusing.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Why would she go sing in a small town dressed as a commoner ? S2 translations sure didn’t help but I had no idea what was going on and what the point of this was. Promoting folks songs to reduce the temple domination ? Yeah ok but what happened to your goal ? Didn’t you want to prevent your family’s murder ? What is going on ??

You will enjoy the first 90~ chapters if you like cute slices of life with a Mary Sue protagonist collecting fans, because yes the fl is the epitome of a Mary Sue. She’s cute, absolutely everyone loves her, and although she has the knowledge and behavior of an adult almost nobody questions it. The story has its moments so it isn’t awful per se, but don’t read it expecting an interesting character involved in a thrilling investigation with a lot of mind games and manipulation like I did.... The plot is all over the place unfortunately, especially after that time skip.
The art is beautiful though ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Edit : chapter 124 and I’m getting real bored. I think the author completely dismissed the original plot. Everyone is in love with the fl and it’s just pointless and ridiculous drama now, to the point where I wonder if the mc actually forgot that she was supposed to resolve her family MURDER. Argh I am so disappointed.
If you want to read something similar but much more interesting, check out In This Life, I'll Become the Head of the Family. The storytelling, the plot, the characters, the romance... everything is better.

I do like slow-paced stories that focus on characters. But my God, this is next level sloth and snail and tortoise rolled into once. I guess if you're into cute characters doing cute stuffs then you would love this, but I'm kinda at my limit. And I find it absurd that the author would use the dense FL trope here and make Calliope so unaware of all the boys' feelings for her. She is reliving her life with the mindset and intelligence of an adult, and sometimes she is even so creepily menacing. So I find it unbelievable that she doesn't notice when boys like her. The author should have handled it better rather than passing it off as misunderstanding.

We are almost 100 chapters in and there has not been any significant progress to the plot. The main character is still pretty much a toddler, as are most of the other characters around her whose sole purpose appears to be worshipping the MC or being bad in order to make her look good, which is honestly not necessary as the character is already overpowered as is.
The whole "going back in time with knowledge from the future"-spiel always goes hand in hand with a Mary-Sue protagonist, so I don't want to complain too much about it, what I do want to criticise however is how much time is dedicated to showing how cute the MC is and how cute everyone finds her. If you already got annoyed at how often I used the word "cute", I advise you to not read this story - cause it is in there a LOT more. There was an entire chapter on how the parents want to have a camera so they could take cute pictures of the MC. And then there was another chapter where her photo makes it into the newspaper for some reason and all the other toddlers now cut out the picture to keep it for themselves...is this really still cute? If I would see someone cut out a picture of a newspaper I would alert the police. The premise promised a story about a character trying to prevent the downfall of her family, dealing with war and whatnot. But instead, I get 100 chapters of mushy toddlers doing toddler things. Just let her grow up so she can finally work on solving her problems.
I read a lot of stories similar to this and I have to say - most of them are better.

I love the kids and how our MC lovingly teaches them to be better despite looking like a kid herself. And the concepts in this story are refreshing and charming. I'm in love with how adorable everything is! Even then, there's still a background of suspense and tension due to the inherent grim fate our MC faced in her previous life. Her caution is really interesting to read about too.

Update:
So, the latest chapters kind of went downhill -- I don't understand the prince's obsession with her even though he has only seen MC like... twice? The whole camera development thing also seems too sudden and out-of-place. The series just seems to have dropped the ball a bit and slowed down too much.... but maybe the author has something big planned that will connect all these pieces together...

Thoroughly Enjoyable with Charming Characters

I had my skepticisms in the beginning. The fact that the protagonist stays so young for so long (she's still around 5 yrs old at 70 chapters), I wasn't sure I'd like having a literally baby MC. However, it's so charmingly written with beautiful art, I was won over. She really doesn't need to be grown-up to be relatable and likable, and that's an accomplishment in itself. It has great comedic moments which makes for an overall light-hearted vibe, with dramatic and serious undertones. What I love most about the series is that the female lead is very intelligent, quick-witted and essentially, well-written. She's also drawn with A LOT of emotion without flashy and constant blushes or tears. I think where many comics may shine in story, they tend to lack in acting and thoughtful/diverse character depictions, but that's not at all the case for this one. All emotions are conveyed really well depending on the character, and that's what makes it funny, endearing, and captivating. Jumping at every chapter that comes out!

There are 67 chapters now.

POSITIVE:

• Cool art and character designs. Like comeon, the MC was so adorable and so were the other characters. I also love the setting.

• MC being strong and collected, and somewhat funny (like when she wanted to walk and save the world but the only thing she can do is flip in her crib). She fights her own battles. I love how she always says that she is the protector (instead of your typical shojo girl who always opted to be protected). This is the main reason why I'm hooked with this series: a strong woman. I love a strong woman. It's what I search when *committing* to a series.

• Pure family of MC. They're honest, paranoid, and most of all funny. Their honest reactions like when they get shocked everytime Lippe (protagonist. I read it as Lip-pi) starts talking complete sentences at the age of 1, and how she gives out wisdom at the age of 3 etc.. Paranoid; they always feel the need to protect Lippe cos she's too precious and how they always want too look good to her. Funny, cos while they try doing all things aforementioned, they look silly. I think MC's family is the actual comedy.

Also, at first I thought there were a lot of fanservice for shojo readers like when the people around MC were all cutesy towards her and smooch her frequently, but then I realized that it was only appropriate. It was part of protagonist's character. Somehow it reminded me as a reader that she is still really a baby in the eyes of those around her despite how mature she thinks and acts. I enjoyed those moments the most. Also, it made me, the reader, connect to the main plot all the more (which is the fact that MC is preventing the tragedy) like giving me feelings of being hopeful that she succeeds in her quest (like come on, the people around her were too pure to be gone)

• Family oriented. I had to point this out. I love how family oriented this series is. It made me treasure my family all the more. Somehow, I didnt crave for the story's romance because I was contented with the love from her family. I really really really hope Lippe grows old with them....

• Character development of supporting characters. I love how Lippe helped out Angelina (aka Julian) and Hildert. I love how MC actually helps out the people around her change for the better. I love how I understand how they change. The amazing articulation of the conversations made me understand their change.

I also love how there are also very unlikeable characters. It gives out balance. But considering how strong the main plot is, I am expecting to have more characters like Brinzell and Sarinette

• Nerve-racking plot. I'm really looking forward to the main plot. There are a few conversations already in the given chapters regarding the main plot but it's not yet enough. Somehow I thought the main genre was a psychological, or horror, or seinen series and not shojo because of the grim introduction of the story and shojo was only a sub-genre. There's not much to talk about the main plot yet, but it was really something to look forward to.

• I now have loli fetish and I'm not even mad. Lol

NEGATIVE:

• Slow update..... (cos I just cant wait >.<😉

It's just my lament as a binge reader. I dont usually read ongoing series because they can be frustrating especially when you're hooked to the story.

• There are moments where I think MC come off as too strong and inappropriate for her age, but idk, maybe it's just part of her character and stuff so idrk

• Still dry in the romance department. Lol
(or maybe because she's still a baby? Idk)

This story really has a slow development cos it started out as the MC reincarnated as a BABY (the title is lady baby so......). For binge readers, it's really advisable to wait out until it's complete cos the story is engrossing (only my opinion tho).

P.S. to author, creators, translators of the story:
Please make it quick on the updates >.<.
Thank you for your hard work and consideration!

Incredibly boring

Here we have another story of a girl whose life turned into hell, but was given another chance by going back in time and starting over as a baby. Cliche, but I don't care. I'm a sucker for this shit. Usually that is.

Nothing you'd expect from the premise can be found in the first 40 chapters however. All that happens is the mc being fawned over and praised for being cute and a genius. Each chapter the author comes up with a new idea of how to make the mc look good. No story to be found.

That said, if you're into slice of life and don't expect any story, this could be decent I guess.

A Cut Above The Rest

At the time of writing this, there are only 41 chapters out.

This story has a very strong start. There are many "Rebonre again" stories out there and they all have the same cookie-cutter feel to them. However, this one manages to stand out in terms of quality in both writing and art. Bit of a warning though, this is shaping up to be a slow burn kind of story. If you can’t handle that, you may want to just wait for more chapters to come out so you can binge it.

We see how in her past life was ruined and now watch her grow up and try to prevent the tragedy from happening again. However, 40 chapters in and there hasn't really been any development in the stoping the tragedy from happening plot... and that's fine. Unlike most stories, that throw the MC directly into the thick of things or have a time skip over the childhood. We follow our MC from birth. This might slow down the "Plot" but it never feels that way. The story progresses nicely and is setting a strong foundation for each of its characters as well as introducing plot points.

Our protagonist is definitely a strong point over other protagonists from similar stories. Most are either always very hyper/hotblooded and naive or are super OP "Cool-beauty" type mary sues. Calliope(the MC) falls into the latter half, but she feels more natural. Her cool-headedness actually feels like its part of her personality rather than her just being a genius at 4-dimensional mind chess who is able to predict all of the villain's moves. The MC's family, that she is trying to protect, are all very likable and are the main source of humor for the story.

Now let us talk bout the art. It is gorgeous. Most manhwa have nice art and try to make the MC look pretty. But the characters in this all look so good and the MC is extremely adorable. The art style is clean and just simple enough to not let the scene get lost in the details.

I can definitely recommend this one for now. Give it a read, its worth it.

Edit: I’ve seen a lot of people complaining about the slow pace and lack of plot development. I said it in my review and I’ll say it again. This is a slow burn story. The MC even says that shit hits the fan when she turns 15, she is currently only 5 years old. If major plot events started to happen now when she is only 5 and at 40 chapters in, it would, in my opinion, feel rushed. The author is using this time to build up characters and plot points. Calm down.
