art is like vampire knight

Art is reminiscent of Matsuri Hino's. I see a lot of Yuki and Kaname in some of the characters. That beauty was the manga's only saving grace.

I just didn't like the story. Not my cup of tea. I kept finding myself irritated by the heroine, she kept whining about whether or not she was a human, which doesn't make any sense, so I guess she just wanted any reason to be angsty. How about you cry for the fact that your father was beheaded before you and that you were dismembered instead.

That's enough reason for constant tears and angst, I think.

The art was the highhlight for me and also perhaps the angst. I think the plot was good but too rushed and as the author tried to cram too much drama within 4 chapters it kind of went downhill. It was fast paced and confusing, and we didn't get enough time to develop feelings to feel things when things went well or bad.

too bad it was only four chapters..the art was good, the plot was unique in a way (yue also being a doll..),but i did not like the way the heroine's insecurity was shown in every chapter (but there was only 4 of it..so i guess it's still okay).
anyway,it was a good read. smile

Could have been developed more...

The story is only for chapters long and in those four chapters was a pretty good plot, with enough intrigue and mystery that could have been good, unfortunately the plot did not have enough time to develop and ended up just seeming like a disjointed story that could have been better than it was.

Plot- The initial premise was good enough, interesting enough, however it could have been developed further and explained more. As the story continued everything happened quite quickly, that while the plot twists were good they could have been drawn out a bit more to add to the story instead of seeming like sudden changes that were very sudden. The last few twists were caused by the characters feelings, however those feelings were never fully explained and the characters not developed to fully appreciate what they were doing.

Characters- The characters seemed nice enough, but were not developed enough to get emotionally attached to the character. The plot was driven by the character's emotions, that affected their actions and pushed the story forward, but as previously stated those emotions were not fully explained, and because I never got attached enough to the character I didn't get to involved with the story either.

Art- The art is nice, beautiful and sometimes it can be a little more on the creepy side.

Other- I did enjoy the story, the whole premise was a nice one and the ending was quite neat to, however I would have enjoyed it more if everything had been developed more and it had been a longer series. As it stands, the manga is a nice short read, if your interested in it read it, it not then you probably shouldn't.

5/10- Was all right

dreamlike, which is both good and bad

Very pretty art & good ideas but bad storytelling. The story jumps all over the place, and there are some problems with internal logic.
I don't even mention worldbuilding. It's not a fable or a fairytale, those dolls exist in our world, yet there is absolutely no explanation as to why it's considered normal.

The artwork was very pretty, but the story... So stupid. Once again, another weak heroine that loves a bishie but she says she is not a doll. Then the bad guy wants to buy her-- It reminded me a bit of Antique Romance. But AR is much, much better.

Don't bother to read it, just check it for the artwork.

Tragically Beautiful

This was a really great story. It's very dark and tragic, definitely not light fluff. The artwork is also very beautiful and captivating. The problem with this manga is how rushed it is. It should of been a series instead of a one shot.

Interesting Story

I really enjoyed this story. It has nothing to do with dolls turning human or humans into dolls, it has to do with loving someone and being loved. Just because you possess an artificial part that you were not born with, does not make you less human. Nor does giving an artificial object a human part make it a human being. A very intriguing story indeed. I loved it!

What else can I say that hadn't been said by Hanjae
All I can do is support and agree with her
I'm maybe a bit biased since I'm kinda into this doll stuff xD
The story, I just like it <3 I'm in a wonderful mood and want to get out of the usual shoujo...so yea, the story is interesting
The art, fantabulous..I like this kind of art..you know it's like the same kind with Kaori Yuki's...though maybe this mangaka is not that skillful because it's hard to differentiate between the characters..and I'm not saying that the art is not beautiful
For me, you sometimes, don't need to think deeply of why this and why that...This is just a 1 vol so it lacks the reasoning and logic...If this were a 5 vol ++, then, that's a major flaw....Just read it, enjoy and understand what's going on biggrin

Really..it's an enjoyable story(warning! Like I said I'm maybe biased) I definitely won't delete it from my comp lol...Try it and maybe it'll captures your heart ^_~ and if you don't like it,sayonara jk jk

Complex.

Canaria Child was a surprisingly complex story, given its length. I'd have to disagree that it was a lame story that didn't make sense and centered too much on the two main characters; I think Hermit-chan and Molenir completely missed the point.

Firstly, the characters. The author made the correct choice in focusing entirely on Mitsuki, Yue, and Kotoi in the later chapters. Given the psychological damage that Mitsuki suffered when she found out her father's secret, and both her and Yue's inner conflicts as they tried to come to terms with reality, there was no way the author could've introduced all these other characters. They would've felt totally underdeveloped.

Secondly, the plot. In the whole story, Mitsuki and Yue are coming to terms...
Spoiler (highlight to view)
...with the fact that they both have doll parts. They're afraid that they'll slowly become dolls, and they're not sure what makes them human and what makes them doll anymore, since dolls can be imbued with the owner's wishes and seem to come to life. There have been other manga, movies, TV shows, etc., exploring this difference. It's hardly a stupid idea.

The fact that dolls can be made to move and speak has blurred the lines between what is truly human and human-made - the collectors all bidding for a "living doll" isn't just something out of the blue. What they discover to be the one thing that makes them human is intriguing.

Thirdly, the art was very, very pretty. It kind of reminded me of Kaori Yuki's, for some reason, but less dark. My only complaint is that Yue and Kotoi looked remarkably similar when Yue had his glasses off; I had difficulty telling them apart in the last chapter.

All in all, I liked this far more than I thought I would. The doll theme was interesting rather than freaky, the idea of what separates the human and the doll was well-explored, given the short length, and the ending was quite satisfactory. Give this a go; don't let the previous comments discourage you.
