Not finished.... yet.

I read right up to phase 2, but currently don't have the stamina to carry on reading at this stage, it took over my life. I love this series to bits, the story is intense, shocking and at times rather disturbing. It feeds the right amount of information at the necessary times to keep you between knowing and not knowing what the hell is going on, but it's done in such a way that keeps you hooked and wanting more. I started reading a week ago and couldn't put it down. I'm defiantly obsessed and have already recommend it to as many people as I can.

it started really interesting, and was good somewhere until they start constantly bringing people back to life. Or maybe when they introduce the angolina jolie character. That's about when it got bad.

It just is terrible now. Too much CG, and the story gets more and more absurd. Also there's actually too much fighting to make up for the confusion caused by the shady story. They randomly introduced a semi "big" bad guy out of no where. No development really. It's a very poorly executed story.

It WAS good

This is another of those mangas that started out great but then went bad fast near the latest chapters. As in super-fast.

More people got involved and the character development got diluted while the plot went mega-scale. The art becomes more and more obviously 3D CG as well, which in my opinion 3D graphics needs to always have a passive role in manga and anime, if any role at all (looks so...out of place. There are only a few works that actually pull it off well, GitS being one of them, and that's an anime).

So to put it in a few words: gets uninteresting

Why do you think so many groups dropped it?

If you're old enought to understand the depth of the history, this IS one of the best mangas you'll ever find.
The characters are not noble, they are not super heroes, they are not correct. They are HUMANS, with all its dirtyness.

The character development, the plot, the art. Everything is real good.

Ps: If you feel ofended seeing boobs and gore, don't read it.

losing interest...

This series is all about character development. You will see massive changes in the protagonist's behavior in particular, throughout the course of the series, along with other side characters. Its interesting to see how 'normal' people react in thoroughly abnormal and dangerous situations, which I think is a major part of the series.

Its a dark series; blood and gore abound, and if you're looking for any humorous asides, look elsewhere. This can be a thoroughly depressing read, as the condition that the characters are in declines as the series continues, with no end in sight. I suppose one can catch a glimpse of despair, numerous times throughout the series, and let the feeling sink in. The problem is that all the gore, blood, and boobs, are gratuitous and pointless.

Unpleasantries aside, this is an ok series, but there are others out there which would be more worth your time. I am still reading this, but only because I have nothing better to do.

Downhill journey, that is what Gantz is. It start perfectly, build up anticipation for each next chapter, but it start becoming uninteresting after some time. Though i still want to complete it and its not that bad manga. Its just that it is not as awesome as it looks at the start.

Simply amazing... amazing how well incorporated the themes of survival, redemption, leadership, and even romance is in this manga. The story flows so well that you can't stop reading it and Kei's character development is one of the best i've seen in manga. Its tied for 1st place among seinen along with Vagabond.

What's a word for better than awsome?

This is by far the greatest manga i have ever read. Although I felt it went slow at some points it would only last for a few pages and continue on with the awsomeness.

There have been few (very few) story lines to bring a tear my eyes and I will proudly say that this is one of them. The moral delemas, the chaos, the action, and the love, and were all flawlessy placed/exicuted. A main point i loved is how character's personalities and actions were realistic(well the humans anyway).

Everything else I want to say has already been said by coco_has_to_gogo.

P.S. Kaze is the best.

Best Manga ever! Literature at its finest !!

Lot's of people say Gantz is just a manga about big boobs for perverts.

Soo not True! This manga is one of the richest, most engrossing story-lines out there. This manga is literature digging into the human-psych, asking questions and offering opinions.

The violence is brutal (surgeons cringe when they read Gantz), and there's lots of nudity, but this manga tryies to be realistic, so of course there's nudity; cuz there's nudity in real life @. @ . In Gantz, the situations are fantasy, but the reactions are human and very very realistic (few few exceptions).

Some chapters; you'll be shivering in tension, other chapters; you'll smile with gleeful-happiness (you'll 'awwww' at times, and 'ooohhhgg' at times), and other chapters; will leave you feeling like a pervert.

This is mature manga, not a kitty-kids-manga. This is not a manga about violence (but there's lots of it), its a manga about Human-Character-Development, Drama, and heart felt emotions. I recommend this to guys and girls, who enjoys indulging in fine literature and/or violence (its also funny).

p.s. Kaze (aka Country Side General aka ) is God! He is one of my fav manga characters of all time

final word: The word 'epic' is way too over-used (so much so, it's meaning is starting to lose it's impact). That is why I have vowed to only use 'epic' when one truly truly deserves it. That being said... Gantz is epic! EPIC! E P I C !!!!

Best thing out there.

Gantz is the best! It has everything: visceral combat, actual believable drama, crazy ass monsters that are actually scary. It's not predictable, and it will keep you guessing. There is simply nothing better out there than Gantz.

I don't agree with the last poster, the women in Gantz are hot. I happen to like fan service, and Gantz does a fair deal with it. Even to the point that ocassionally the mangaka will do a scene where the naked women are terrifyingly scary monsters (that particular fight was impressive!).

The story is great too. It takes some patience, as it's not your typical manga where it's just going to explain everything to you. We're (possibly?) close to the end of the Manga, and no one can really say just precisely what is going on.

Gantz is coming together rather nicely. I am glad I caught it before it ended, and will be sad to see it go.
