This manga made me rage inside.

I tried to read this manga five times, now I remember why I dropped it in the first place. It is horrible, yes the female character does have a personality but it seems like a shoujo main girl personality. She is WEAK! The main guy (The Monk) is highly abusive. He may not hit have hit Junko, but he does refuse to have her see her friend because he is insecure and jealous. He also wanted her to quit her job, which she loved. And what really makes me rage is Junko seems fine after he says some sweet words to her, than they have sex and than she hates herself. The monk is no good for her. I was rooting for her friend and her to get together since at least he cared for her and was not abusive. I hated this manga!

Unacceptable

There are about 2-3 stories running in parallel. Junko's and the monk is the main one and the side one would be her friend, the fujoshi girl & the gaijin teacher (Arthur), her sister & the guy who cross-dresses as a girl and the receptionist & Junko's ex-boyfriend.

The romance is quite complicated but it all ties down to most of the men being either interested in or in love with Junko. As the lead, she was as indecisive as shoujo leads get and quite weak when up against handsome men even if they're dressed as monks. It was exasperating reading about her choose between two equally lousy men - and I was rooting for her to fly to New York and be the end of it so her fujoshi friend can take the limelight as her budding romance with Arthur was much more fun to read but nooo, it wasn't meant to be.

Later in the chapters Junko decided to go for the monk who gives her great times in bed but for some reason, their romance is frowned upon by the monk's grandmother so her story just drags on & on which gets super tedious as I'm really not interested in her despite her being the female lead.

I would mostly label this manga as kind of trashy and not worth your time if you're looking for slightly more intellectual shoujo mangas (ha!).

This manga makes the feminist inside me scream. From the start, the guy is overly possesive and the girl is switching between annoyed and charmed in seconds. Screaming no, and then coming along at the same time just doesn't work for me. I rarely drop, but I couldn't handle this one.

Nah, if you think that girls have the right to decide their own lives, you probably won't like this.

Promising

The first few chapters felt disconnected and cliched but around volume 2, things look to be quite promising (and then I got hooked). The monk appears to be a slight nutcase but I smell a story/rationale behind his strong love for Junko being more than just an omai setup. Although I think I like Momoe's storyline more! (I can't tell if it's a translation error but is Arthur interested in Junko or Momoe?)

I enjoy Aihara's artwork but, I wish scenes were more intimate. I don't think this falls under the smut category at all unless it's to come? (Already at vol3ch10 though...) Junko has hooked up a few times and I didn't see anything except them waking up together the next day in bed. Where's the Hot Gimmik heat?!

Thanks for picking up the series. I will anxiously be waiting for more to come and squealing every time there's an update. smile

I would recommend this manga to all josei romance fans smile The characters are strong, believable and interesting (and one of the guys is a gaijin-- if anyone is curious).

Believable? are you braindead? the characters are all completely stupid and the whole story doesn't make sense and people can't simply say what they want. All the characters in this series are man/womanchildren and should probably shoot themselves in real life.

Terrible series.

I'll admit to having read few josei, but if this is representative of the demographic, then I'm not sure how many more I'll be reading. The protagonist blows off the the nice-guy friend twice to sleep with the asshole monk who wants her to give up on her iob and goals to become his wife in some temple? Lovely.

The first two chapters were basically mirror images of each other: monk is a dick to her, girl gets upset, monk gets possessive and sweet-talks her, girl swoons. I'm going to force myself to finish volume 1, but I can't see myself continuing much further

Better work of Aihara sensei

I've read Honey Hunt and Hot Gimmick. Honey Hunt is better than Hot Gimmick but the heroine should really develop some backbones. So... I'm trying this with no expectation. The summary is a bit confusing but I tried it out of boredom and love it! The heroine is a typical modern and independent woman that many can relate to. Yeah... she might glorify Western cultures a bit too much and prejudice against Japanese culture but it makes it a tad bit more believable. It's a promising one so I'm hoping for more. Please no dropping this project again since not being able to finish something I read always kills me.... (as in the case of Honey Hunt).

I would recommend this manga to all josei romance fans smile The characters are strong, believable and interesting (and one of the guys is a gaijin-- if anyone is curious). I think most of readers will find someone they can relate to. I find the manga very realistic, I think it reflects many things in Japanese people and society well... The plot is unpredictable, some nice twists here and there.

I am not a huge fan of romance genre, actually, because it often bores me and I am a cynic when it comes to "I will love you forever and ever and you are the most important to me blah blah" romanic crap, but this manga really moves me! I find it very romantic and emotional *and* realistic, it's not just a sweet talk, the characters' actions can be extreme. Great read in my opinion smile

Aoi-Tenshi, you stopped reading in the wrong moment wink You jumped to conclusions. Junko wasn't fine with it... but I don't want to spoil it for anyone.

i like to read that the female lead is somewhat more mature but unexperienced in romance.. i love her "future fiancee" too.. somewhat possesive but i still don't get it about how he fallin love with female lead , because his grandma seems not agree about the engagement.. and i like to see the development between female lead and her friend.. that hair spike man.. i forgot his name.. the art is ussual aihara miki, nothing changed,, but i like the improvement she make the female lead.. that more honest with her feeling. *sorry for my bad english* i just want to recommend that this manga is good, and have a promising plot.. you should try if you like the adult type living and somewhat carefree female lead..

It was okay at first but then the monk had to go and ruin it for me and Junko's reply to the monk after he went and ruined it for me was too unbelievable. Now, that made me mad and ruined it for me a second time. The monk has some serious mental issues and Junko is a masochist.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
YOU CANNOT GO AND LOCK SOMEONE UP! AND THEN HOW IS IT THAT THE ONE THAT WAS LOCKED UP IS TOTALLY FINE WITH IT?!
I want to slap both of them silly. My two cents.

edit;; @Suiren. I have read many summaries of raws trying very very hard to see a light at the end of the tunnel. And let me tell you, I DID NOT FIND IT. That monk is a terrible representation of a man (if he can even be called one). He treats Junko terribly only to claim that it's out of love and Junko just goes along with it.
