A Rare Josei Gem

Review and rating for entire series (14 volumes)

A rare josei gem! I enjoyed every chapter of this amazingly well-spun tale. It is real, heart-warming, and unique! Older woman meets younger man. Both have much to learn from each other. Even the secondary characters are developed with care and detail, with complete personalities, motivations, desires, etc.

The psychology is wonderfully insightful and each character's development alone and together is like a beautifully flowering blossom. (And don't forget a lovely dose of realistic angst!) What a relief to find a long josei series I can fall in love with!

My complaints are a mere two wee squeak: Why can't josei titles have sex scenes (especially when the build up involves INCREDIBLE, SLOWLY BURNING intensity!) that are as explicit as an intense sex scene in a well-done BL? And the English license title is HORRIBLE. My Pet Momo or You Are My Pet? Sensational!

I really devoured this one, I thought it was excellent in the way that it was so addicting. It has been a while since I've read something so quickly. I thought this was a pretty good story in the way that it was structured, I agree with others that it had excellent pacing and did not focus just solely on the romance like other shoujos tend to do. I do have some qualms with this though, mainly one is
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
that the whole issue that she treated Momo AND Hasumi unfairly was ignored. Not only did she degrade one guy, but she basically cheated on another. Master/servant relationship I think is ok mostly because it is not nearly as degrading.. At least the master has respect for the servant. However with this it really was not ok at all and the author just kind of ignored that fact and wanted to give off the idea that it was ok and some type of maybe a normal relationship. Also another problem was that Sumire supposably all the sudden loves Momo (she really should have started calling him his real name btw) but really that doesn't make any logical sense. Considering how she was psychologically warped in truly sometimes believing he was a pet, this MAY be able to be true. But Idk if "Momo" could get over the feeling of being degraded and being cast down in her eyes that easily. These issues don't really add up to me, psychologically as well.
Other than these issues, I thought the characters were well developed, I didn't really get bored of the manga while reading it and it was addicting. So overall it is pretty good.

I loved the overall story but HATED one of the female characters! She just ruined the entire thing for me. I think the other lead male got a bullcrap ending, but others think it's sweet... -_-

Overrated?

I thought it's a good josei because of the nice ratings it gets from readers so I started reading it. I have to agree that the story was quite addicting to read from vol 1-3 but it went downhill for me on the next volumes. I guess it lost its appeal when
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Sumire started to have a serious relationship with Hasumi while keeping her pet Momo on the side. Talk about infidelity.
Anyway I still recommend this to all josei readers out there because it has all the elements that a josei reader would love (ie Experienced characters, complicated relationships, multiple sexual experience etc.)

i rarely pick up a Josei series, so the good titles are being left out. I am choosy at romance series, i really hate it when main girls gets picked up by a lot of guys so i stayed away on so many shoujo and josei and dark seinen. although this one has some of those, the guys never really lasted for alot of pages or has become an important part of the story.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
although the exception is Hasumi, he is made a main character and it started as hasumi sumire loving each other

it has it good moments although i wish more of
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
sumire longing for momo before the epic break up with hasumi. more drama, more cheesy lines, more crying, more of rumi x momo to make sumire jealous. etc etc

oh on that last chapter,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
my heart hurts goes "ouch" at that sumire smile after Hasumi's call. I was like, "you stupid author why bring that back when hasumi x sumire is all over chapters ago"

Sooo, I started reading manga about a year ago, I always saw this and avoided it, since it seemed pretty boring...soo today I saw this on my wish list and decided to read this(was sorta in the mood I quess). So I read the first chapter and it was really good, then I read the second and yep, just as good;then I read the third and....hmm its kinda boring but ok....then the forth, my thoughts are, ok thus is getting a little boring now.I then got to the eighth with some skimming....I've now decided to give it a break.I'm thinking that maybe this is because I'm reading this in bed...

Edit:So, it didn't improve but I was ok with that but then volume 7 kicks in and the translations picture quality gets shit and the chapters get cut to 15 pages....from their I skimmed through it, and I finally realised that I was on volume 11 already and....nothing had really happened that was worth 11 volumes..I mean literally no development was made between the owner and the pet.

I have to say, I loved the pet, but really thus hangs went downhill from volume 1...I wouldn't waste your time because their really isn't any romance and the way the charters act can sometimes be very retarded...

I deducted one star only because it dragged on for a loooong time. Too much Sumire and Hasumi and not enough Sumire and Momo/Hasumi and Fuku.
And I don't know why, but I loved Fuku and Hasumi together! When she started becoming his pet her character started getting so complex. Like the thing with her father hitting her, and her having to pay for schooling for her little brothers. I also liked Hasumi a lot more when he was around her (ditto for Sumire), they were both trying to be too perfect around each other. But seriously guys, awesome manga. The ending is worth it.

It felt way too drawn out for me. Not much happens that's worth 14 volumes. Better than the length of Hana Yori Dango, but that's not saying much.

I really want to like it, and it's nice, but... too long for the content it contains.

At first I thought this was going to be like one of those typical manga with typical characters but boy was I wrong! This manga is like really fabulous >.<
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
It has the perfect end where it didn't really leave in a cliffhanger because before the actual chapter, we get a glimpse of the near future and all
I swear I love this like crazy, it satisfied my day.

The characters are very distinct and the two protagonist had an unbreakable bond where one was able to fully trust each other. No massive jealousy misunderstanding that one can find in a typical manga.

This is definitely a worth it manga to those who love a strong heroine but falls weak before the people she trust and to those who believe that even the third character deserved happiness.

Was Never Going to Read this

Well, I thought this was done by the same person who did Happy Mania ( Moyoko Anno) because the art looking quite similar on the covers, and I really disliked that story. (Intensely) to the point in which, I had been avoiding Tramps Like Us (Kimi Wa Pet) manga for 6 years years, thinking it was done by the same person. And I never bothered to clarify.

But, lets just say, getting volumes 1 and 2 for $0.25 cents (in United States Currency) at a used book sale, I finally started to reluctantly read this series out of boredom. (There is not much manga I have not read already released in America, so I go over to ones I've skipped all these years) But, to say the least, I really I loved it when I actually did give it a try!
I am so glad I finally started reading this series.
And I hope to get further volumes soon!
