A bit plagiarised...

So far (as of chapter 4), this has closely copied the plotting of Twin Spica, with only a little bit of variation. It seems like it will diverge soon (this seems more focussed on actually going to space, which Spica wasn't at all), but a bit lame that it began so similarly. It looks at risk of devolving completely into Shounen mediocrity, but I shall hold out hope for the time being.

Dumbed down

In short, this whole manga is a teenage introduction to being an astronaut. The problem is that it keeps falling back on stupid shounen tropes while repeatedly throwing death in the face of the cast.

To give you an idea of how lightly/poorly the whole story deals the dangers of space, death and the difficulty of becoming/being an astronaut, the main protagonist's main motivation for becoming an astronaut is to recover the corpse of his brother. His team FAILS their first test under the threat of EXPULSION, and a mere SIX MONTHS later they're in space. Finally, the trainees are so uncooperative with one another that another trainee shoves him aside to complete the objective, DURING AN UNTETHERED SPACE WALK (ie. if he lost control he would have floated out into space and suffocated or fallen into Earth's atmosphere and burned up on re-entry).
