Well you can say all that if you are looking at it from a modern societal standpoint. Also it isn't child abuse if the children are not psychologically damaged negatively. Clearly, what they are doing is traditional and nobody has said it is bad. What they are doing is painful for the children but based on the story, it better that, than be eaten by beasts. Chief is doting, not experimenting. The things he teaches and gives the MC is harder than most and the only thing he tested on the child was bone language thingy, which I don't get the impression is particularly violent. Unless he hates studying. Also if you call this abuse then, ST and other xianxia which involve near murderously difficult training and preparation to fight against people and/or monsters that aren't going to care what you're childhood was like, needs to be included. I also see nothing wrong with a setting beginning in a rural area. Most MCs are nobles or children of powerful/semi-powerful clans, and a change isn't hurting any one. I find it interesting. To be honest I don't understand what you dislike about an environment of a story beginning in the middle of nowhere and by "savage" you mean clearly intelligent men and women who live less than wealthy lives and can brave being in an environment that takes lives without warning, then almost every Xianxia character is a savage. Oh...and we are just at under 10 chapters... Kinda hard to give a sound opinion on anything at this point...

So far chapter 6

I really don't understand the story
so far all I can see is a savage way of living
people live in house of stones
the man hunts and bring food
and they live in the middle of nowhere
They are like cave man version

Child abuse? I don't know if this little child is the mc (1 and half years old)
but this child is being experimented by the chief of the village
Being boiled in a pot fill with various of monsters blood
other children age 4-10 won't even last since they can fill extreme pain like there skin is being torn to pieces
Imagine the MC (1.5 years old) is being put there 3 times than normal
and the child is also feed with various ingredients
there was once after he ate something the child went berserk and was jumping from one roof to another
All the children in the village cant help but feel pity towards him
I don't know why but I really feel its child abuse lol
