Description
From Yuri Project:

Fashionable Yuzu imagined the first day at her new school she transferred to after her mother’s remarriage a bit differently; she didn’t know it’d be an ultra-strict and conservative girls’ school. So instead of a sweet high-school romance, she butts heads with the stern student council president Mei – who turns out to be her new step sister. And she has to learn that hate and love are often not that far apart.

Okay, I love love-hate romances and I practically live for my OTP which is a love-hate relationship, but this is not a love-hate relationship. She doesn't actually hate Mei at all beyond title pages. This is what I dislike about most love-"hate" romances--where the hate is never actually hate. They always approach it in a way where the "hate" is a result of tsundereism, which is often a cowardly way to approach it.

There's no chemistry at all. It feels extremely forced. I had such high expectations when I read the summary, and my hopes were crushed. = _=

It's melodramatic without the necessary build-up, and it's not "angsty" at all. More like wangsty.

I'm okay with cliches as long as they are done well. The cliches in this were done very poorly.

The fiance being evil was so textbook cliche that I laughed. He used all the lines they usually do. It was ridiculous.

A LOT of plot holes.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Like, how the hell did Mei explain that scene to her Grandfather? Why does the mother suddenly love a girl that's supposedly her step-daughter when her husband flew all the way to the other side of the world?

Mei is an inconsistent character without reason for being so. She has no personality.

Nobody falls in love (in infatuation, sure) just from being kissed. = _= Ridiculous.

The art is the only thing good about this series. The art is fantastic. Other than that, a time-killer at best. She should've gotten a seperate writer for this.

I really like angsty romances [completion edit: it gets better]

It's a major reason of why I go to the shoujo-ai/yuri genre, the intrinsicly greater insecurity. Though here, at least until ch 9, that's not realy a source of the angst.
This is really nice though it's kinda a surprise when the sex scenes come up (using 'sex' liberally seeing as how sensual the kisses are). [EDIT 2: this decreases dramatically during the series]
Oh, and the art is freaking fantastic. (Yuzu's determined running pose aside, which looked kinda like... stock design.)

EDIT: Ok so 8 years later I finally finish it. So thing is, this manga used to be quarterly, iirc. i.e. one release every THREE months! So I lost track of it with med school and such. But I also lost track of it because of a certain development in chapter 13/14 that I really didn't like, it just felt really cliche. The

love rival
trope. Thing is, turns out this gets resolved in chapter 15! If I had just stuck for one more chapter...
See what's interesting is that I felt like Citrus was going downhill for the past few chapters but it turns out that from chapter 15 onwards it actually gets better!
No longer is there sexual assault between the two leads, which was icky and really the most disturbing thing in the series. There's no cliche characters acting as convenient plot obstacles. It's just...it just becomes character-driven, mostly, and it's really quite nicely done. We also finally get more insight into Mei as her walls come down and she becomes more expressive.
And goddamn, there's a certain 'letter' chapter, I think it's chapter 36, that's done EXTREMELY well! You'll probably pick up what's going on in the first couple pages of the letter but go back and reread it from the top of it and you'll pick up on the hints.

All in all, this series started good. Had a couple dips and highs, art was amazing, especially Saburouta-sensei's depiction of the sexual tension and the girls being turned on (seriously, may be the best in a yuri, or any non-porno manga out there) and in the coloured pages. And then from chapter 15-ish things just get better.
I do feel the 'call in the cavalry' chapter near the end could been paced a little slower, but that's a pages/chapter issue rather than a chapter/series issue, so it's out of the mangaka's hands.
Anyway, 10 years later I finally finished this series (damn 10 years) and it's worth the read for fans of shoujo-ai/yuri at the least, perhaps romance in general. I would've given it a 7.5 in the first year, a 7 before I lost track, but now that i've read 15->end I think I'm comfortable with an 8.5. There is some really good writing (with some overdramatic parts, too, of course) and moments in here. Almost cried many times.

But so far, there's been no sex (v1)
.
The art is very pretty, weird expressions/kisses aside, it's clean and nice to look at.
The mangaka pays attention to characters' faces & hair styles and every one is easily distinguished from one another, looking completely unique while belonging to the same universe.
Though she doesn't do too well with the older ones (note - grandpa).
The interactions between the characters aren't done very well, and unfortunately the events seem forced and uncomfortable. So despite some cute parts, the plot lacks in fluidity and just common-sense, really.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
What's up with Mei's annoying aloofness? What's up with her engagement? Who exactly gave a high school student permission to marry her teacher? What the fuck's up with that?!! And where are the parents/guardians/adults in this weird equation?

I mean, sure, their attraction to each other is kinda fun, but that's that. I don't like Mei and I pity Yuzu (who's way more likable) for falling for such a messed up person, so I can't root for their relationship other than to fulfill my desire of seeing them have sex. So, yeah. There's much better yuri manga out there, even if the art isn't as shiny.

The editing on this one, is so pro... Can't help but admire it...
Go go Yuri Project!

I was looking for nice looking yuri with a cute plot instead of just excuses for fucking. This is the first thing I found and I really like this! Pointless stuff isn't my thing at all and this doesn't disappoint. It's pretty simple and typical manga-ish, but at times there is really strong feelings coming through and I can actually really relate to the feelings that are expressed.
Perhaps it's because the protagonist is really colorful and though she seems playful there is a suprising depth to her, giving that this story is so cliché.

I don't really read yuri (yaoi's more my thang), but I really loved this. Although this is coming from someone fairly new to the yuri scene, I found it quite cute and light-hearted, with nice art and as of yet, not too smutty (although I wouldn't object that passionately). I liked Yuzu, and even though she annoyed me at the start, found her quite cute as the manga progressed. X
