Description
From Viz:
Nanami Momozono is alone and homeless after her dad skips town to evade his gambling debts and the debt collectors kick her out of her apartment. So when a man she's just saved from a dog offers her his home, she jumps at the opportunity. But it turns out that his place is a shrine, and Nanami has unwittingly taken over his job as a local deity.
Nanami has all kinds of new responsibilities she doesn't understand, dangers she's unaware of, and a cranky ex-familiar who's actually pretty hot. What's a new-fledged godling to do?

Okay first, let me tell you this, it's so awesome that even if you had a migraine you would still have the enthusiasm to read and finish it all the way. that's what happened to me. Like seriously, my head was throbbing like crazy and I still read it because it's too awesome for me not finish it.
Anyway, kidding aside, the art is very nice, very well drawn and very amusing as well. The plot is understandable and light. It's a nice combination of modern day girls and deities. It's not that cheeky as well.
All in all, it was and I'm sure that it still is a good thing to read.

It has quite an interesting plot but it's still a really nice shoujo manga. I read up to chapter 60 in no time without realizing it! Usually mangas that have lots of chapters intimidate me but I couldn't stop reading. I highly recommend this manga for those who love fantasy and shoujo! It's also a good read for those who are interested in Japanese mythical creatures.
Totally worth your time!

I choose manga based on cover art, then story plot. I know the saying that says 'don't judge the book by its cover' but in manga-world, I can totally cringe if the art sucks - even if the plot is A+.
For Kamisama Hajimemashita - art-wise: A+
Moving on -
Story plot: I love it! It's not too complex, and 100% innocent. Nanami is focused on what she wants and is genuine on helping and influencing the people around her. Everyone adores her, even though she is only subconsciously aware of it.
Romance-wise: Tomoe is the fox-guy who resented her at the beginning, but as they started interacting more with each other - you can see how he begins to accept her despite his previous dislike for humans and how she is slowly becoming a part of his life which he can't lose.
You get to see a lot of bittersweet moments between Tomoe and Nanami in this story - which really tugs at your heartstrings. But there are also light moments between Nanami and the people around her. It's such a lovely story - you should totally give a try.
10/10!

I can probably count on one hand the number of well-executed (plot and art included) manga with a strong female lead. I absolutely adore Nanami's unfailing courage and kick-ass attitude. She gets angry when she should, and even though she often does need Tomoe's help, she doesn't just sit around waiting to be rescued. She puts her best foot forward and saves the men from each other and from themselves. And if that's not enticing enough, one look at Tomoe's foxy self should be more than enough incentive for you to pick up this series
Edit: dropped, which saddens me, but it seems that when many works get to this stage where they're wildly popular everything becomes stagnant as the mangaka starts to drag things out. Maybe I'll come back to this one day >.<

I totally love this manga! The relationship between the two main characters are a bit reminiscent of Inuyasha, but I like the female lead in this 100000x better than Kagome and the male lead a little better than Inuyasha as well. The characters in general are a lot morelovable for me.
This storyline is a lot of fun and totally riveting! The art is nice too (yes yes Tomoe is hot ;3 )
Really a must-read!

The male lead in it... is so freakin hot. I think that is one of the reasons I love this manga so much...... the plot is interesting and the girl is strong and doesn't annoy me... unlike other mangas....
IT'S SO AWESOME! you have to read this, you WILL NOT regret it

Male character is sweet, the female is a strong willed woman, great character development, nothing is rushed, this has got to be one of the best shoujo mangas I've read in years. Not one chapter has been a disappointment for me. Definitely a recommend for those looking for a enjoyable manga to read.
charming and better than expected- keep reading on!

I love Suzuki Julietta's works, and at first, when I read the beginning of Kamisama Hajimemashita, I thought, "She's changing her style to fit more mainstream shoujo mangas." Sadistic fox, human girl just turned land god, complete lack of regard towards the girl's actual past, kissing contract. I was kind of disappointed, but I kept reading. There were big plot holes (what happened to her dad? what about Mikage?), but I read on anyways. And as you get further and further along, you'll find that Mikage, the former land god, does in fact make another appearance, and although I haven't seen any signs of Nanami's father, hopefully the mangaka will get to that.
What I love most about this manga is the characters. They're cute and funny and emotional, and all of their interactions just makes an adorable manga. It's not groundbreaking, but the mangaka somehow writes in her charm. Nanami is a perfect balance, in my opinion. She's not too strong and confident and powerful, but she's not too ditzy and stupid either. She's not too ridiculously kind, but she's not diabolical either. I think a 'normal person' kind of heroine needs a balance of both sides..and Nanami's good for that. Side-characters come back in later chapters, letting you get to know all of them slowly. Nanami and Tomoe are great together; I love how their romance is more of a gradual build-up, a comfortableness around each other that really shows they have something. It's not your typical shoujo manga- the oh-so-terribly-mean boy who harasses the cute girl and then actually turns out to be in love with her after he rescues her...nope, Tomoe's definitely not that. He may have the sadistic streak that I see in a lot of shoujo male protagonists, but the mangaka writes it in a friendly, funny way that shows off their relationship dynamics even more, along with those sentimental moments. They just get better as the story goes on. Everyone gets better as the story goes on. If you look back at the beginning, you'll realize how much they've all grown and changed.
The art is simple, but it's refreshing. Not everyone has big sparkly eyes and teeny tiny dots for noses. I appreciate the fact that the mangaka tries to distinguish between the characters- Kayako looks distinctly different from Nanami (even if they swapped hairstyles, I would never mistake Kayako for Nanami), Kurama looks nothing like anyone else in the manga, etc.
Overall, I love this manga. To me, at least, it doesn't matter if it's cliche and stereotypical if it's done well.

and this manga has been worth it. The story is rather episodic, dealing more with character growth and relationships than with a long term plot. Still, Nanami goes from determined to depressed and back again quickly, so she's really quite interesting as a plucky heroine. But, for me, Tomoe is the winner. A sarcastic wild kitsune who has been tamed by Mikage, the original landgod, it's nice to see him change as the manga progresses.
I hope that this will end well, but it's going to be a bit of a toss up, kind of like the end of Inu Yasha, when you weren't sure if Kagome was going to stay or leave. I hope she stays a god, I hope he stays a kitsune, but you know it can't really go that way. Still, maybe the author will surprise me!
The art has a certain charm that makes it fun to read. All the side characters have been interesting, and I look forward to more of them, or when she calls on all of them for help. (Wouldn't that be neat?) Overall, a fun read that has some stereotypical shojo issues, but is still interesting and entertaining.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I have been especially fond of Vol 10, as we see more of Kuruma's background and we get to see Tomoe struggle with his emotions, since for him it's a battle between duty and affection, something new as of vol 9.

Nice plot, nice characters, well everything is good in this manga. The girl is not weak like shoujo girls and the boy is just handsome.I just don't regret reading this. It is nicely reccommended by me
