this was dramatic for the most part and the ending is a little fluffier and comedic. This story probably couldve used more than one volume to accommodate this development, since it seem a little sudden within the span of one volume. Nonetheless I really enjoyed both elements of the story and appreciated the happy ending. The art is also very good so I definitely recommend this for a quick, enjoyable read.

It's wierd. The beginning is nice, then it goes downhill.

There's so much drama it feels like it's a parody of this genre. At some point I couldn't identify with characters any longer cause the story crossed the line of being believable. I know that manga is a product of author's imagination but still (if it's not a fairy tale) I expect something more real-life like. It's not just the amount of mishaps, it's also characters' behaviour. Watching Sakuraba I kept wondering if mangaka grew up in a pathological environment - his behaviour, his facial expressions, his answers were all over the top. Other characters often overreacted even to small things, they were yelling and shouting with faces overflowing with anger way too much.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Example: Sakuraba had sex, afterwards he forcibly pushed away his partner, threw him mean, disgusted look and run away, then he got ill, collapsed and was bedridden for 10 days. Isn't it too much?

The art is pretty, unfortunately you can hardly see "normal" face in this manga, I mean a face free from any unhappy expression. It affects the whole work. It's not entirely bad story but also nothing above average.

but the drama is really badly written. it's like the mangaka just flings it at you without any subtlety at all. characters are having a nice time then BAM mom comes in the room all like "your dad died kid" and on cue character goes !!!!!!!!! with the tears and everything. it doesn't work well at all and feels soapy.

the characters are alright, they have some sweet moments toward the end that are pretty nice. this mangaka should just write fluffy slice of life stories, honestly. she might do better at that.

I rarely write reviews, but I really want to clear the air for this one. Previous reviews state that this manga is too stereotypical or melodramatic or the pacing was off. I quite disagree. Natsuki's father died and he was the last person to have seen him/possibly prevented his death. Natsuki feels a lot of guilt and grief over the incident, like any normal person would if their father died. In fact, I think he also has PTSD - the trademark signs are hypervigilance, nightmares, and intrusive thoughts, all of which Natsuki experienced in the manga. While there were a few cliches in this manga, I don't understand why this was called out so much. For starters, in yaoi it is not common that the uke forces himself on the seme. It is way more often the other way around.

I also liked the depth of these characters - particularly how Natsuki still grieved for his father. Often times in manga, a character dies, they grieve for a few pages, and then that character is not mentioned again. It is very realistic that Natsuki is still impacted by his father's death and I liked how this was partially resolved with Yuni's help. Yuni realizing his feelings after the incident didn't bother me at all; sometimes it takes something like that for you to understand your feelings. As he later explained, he was confused - it wasn't because he didn't like Natsuki. The pacing was a bit inconsistent but it added to the overall lofty feel of this manga. The time skip inbetween chapters reminded me of Complex.

Idk? I can't decide whether Yuni's a gentle seme or what. He can be gentle sometimes, but he can also be scary or hurting Natsuki (tho it's bc of Natsuki's whims). Tho the art was dabomb yaaasss

Too much melodrama

This is almost up to Ogeretsu Tanaka's level of writing drama - too over-the-top and excessively hammy for my taste. Characters are quite superficial and poorly developed. It feels like they exist solely to serve their stereotypes purpose and as a result fell very flat by the end. At least if it was cute I wouldn't have asked for some level of depth, but it's not like this manga was that pretty either (sorry I also don't like the art) :/

I was actually quite entertained by the mangaka's Kuroko no Basket doujinshi (Murasakibara and Himuro are among my favs) and was so eager to check her out after she started writing her own stuff. But now that there are no longer well established characters for her to fall back on, I think her flaws as a manga artist are truly showing themselves.

The Art Only

If you want to something tragic but sweet and short then Cut is a 100 times better. Not only does the mangaka take into considerations others characters besides the two protagonists, there is narrative consistency and the paneling also is carefully done, unlike here where stuff happens for no apparent reason whatsoever.

Honestly, there really isn't much else going on besides using cliches so badly that I wondered whether I should call them cliches after all or not. This manga isn't bad, okay it is bad, but not that bad because the one uncommon/original/unique scene that I found in the whole story was
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
when Natsuki pushes Yuni down, blindfolds him because Yuni, to quote, "doesn't want to see this", and gets Yuni to penetrate him, for which he then feels guilty and keeps on apologizing and they eventually work it out. And it's this event that "awakens" Yuni to his love, I would say lust though, for Natsuki, which Yuni himself acknowledges in the manga, which I find a bit unsettling because they have been friends for 14 years at the least, and it's after this supposedly traumatic event that Yuni realizes his love for Natsuki? My point is some representation of Yuni's psyche as he grew up with Natsuki would be nice, instead of just throwing this in to spicy things up

And sometimes I felt that I was reading incomplete one (and even half) shots due to the narrative inconsistency. The link from chapter to chapter just wasn't there for me.

P.S.: The only reason I picked it up was because the art seemed similar to TAGURA Tohru-sensei's style, so I just wanted to check this out.
