The moment I've read the blurb;I already have the feeling that I will seriously gonna love it and I did! The storyline is mainly fantasy and drama. Not gonna lie, I never thought the manga ran the year I was born which is 2001 and up until now, there's no news of it being continued. The manga is superb; plot, art, characters and all.
I'm just extremely frustrated that the last update and scantalation was over 15 years ago already and the manga haven't even reached its ending yet. I hope this will not undergo indefinite hiatus.😭 There's still more mysteries left to be answered and I want Sado and Matsumono to live happily together right after breaking the curse yet the last chap is a mega cliffhanger. Is Matsumono going to France for three years to study even if it means leaving Sado during that span of time for the sake of Vierne's future? Was Matsumono's ancestors able to lift the curse as well but not entirely? Was the one who backed up or allied with the Vierne's heir related to Sado? I mean, that powerful man spoke french and Sado is originally from France, after all?I need answers right now😫
I can't accept this!😭 I hope the manga will reconsider of continuing this piece! I got so attached with the characters and really, this manga is just so amazing in so many ways💙🥰

ARGH!! Why is it on hiatus?!?! I really like this manga! The storyplot and character development is going strong, so having this sudden stop is making me depressed. OTL
Well, like the other reviewers said, if you don't mind having a cliffhanger at chapter 9, by all means read this story and share my frustation (BWAHAHAHAHA).

If you read this, keep in mind that there is a good chance this won't be picked up again by the mangaka so it might never be finished. If you don't mind that though, I'd recommend the read!
The art is very pretty and to be honest, reading the title "Private Prince" I expected all sorts of things but not this kind of plot!
It's interesting, funny and unique.
While it has a fantasy theme, the story soon expands to more realistic topics, and it makes for a nice mixture of both realism and fantasy.
What I found pretty interesting myself was
The manga only has one book released, with all other chapters having been in anthologies but not released in book-form, and since they would have enough for a 2nd volume already but are not releasing it, might be a sign that the series isn't popular enough, which would explain the hiatus.
Altogether, if you don't mind it ending practically in the middle without clearing anything up at all, then it's worth the read.

both the awkward and very funny scenes where other people notice that Kaoru is acting weird with the doll, like him being half naked or saying the doll spoke to him, and the melancholy it brings that only Kaoru can see the human prince and he is the only one to interact with him.

This was first manga I have ever read.
Now all I am usually doing - is reading manga
And this is all thanks to this manga, it really showed me how wonderful thing is reading manga
I think that if I read something else I would probably not continue with reading mangas

the volume data is -- unfortunately -- correct. there is no second tankoubon; believe me, i've looked. it's just a guess by the scanlators which volume we'd be in by the last published chapter.
this is one manga i really wish would come out of hiatus, but it probably won't happen, *sigh*. i guess it wasn't popular enough in japan. it's got a good plot, and i find it pretty darn original; ok, "mannequin who comes to life" isn't (the story even acknowledges that, which i find a charming way to give credit to inspiration), but then what is original in that sense? the combination of how the mannequin comes alive, the conditions of the curse, the backstory featuring kaoru's grandmother, and the osaki subplot are deftly interwoven and revealed at a nice pace. i also like the humour here; it's not too much, but it provides some levity -- i grinned at the overly enthusiastic ero-prince's antics to get some more loving.
recommended IF you don't mind that you'll be left hanging after chapter 16, with the main plot points not resolved。

The data on the manga is slightly incorrect: There are 2 volumes and 1 chapter to start the 3rd volume was released in a magazine (total 16 chapters). Then Asato-sensei set it aside. She did create a DJ: Private Love Affair (unscanlated).
This yaoi manga has a fabulous plot! It's not a completely original plot, but it is so well woven and engaging that it is worth the read, even though Asato-sensei left her readers on a cliff hanging before deciding to abandon this work. It's a great prompt for a fanfic-er's imagination as to where it would go...
The magical-history element lent to beautiful costumes and mysterious spells. That was original: why the prince was punished with his curse.
Their relationship develops gradually, convincingly and touchingly as the selfish Prince begins to understand just exactly how selfless and beautiful Karou really is. The only problem is that the deeper their relationship gets, the less panels are spent on intimacy. (It never is explicit; rather, more shounen ai-esque). It becomes mostly fade-to-black type 2-panel scene.
There is a host of intriguing secondary characters and subterfuge is to be had around every corner! Karou's, the little honest uke, has a personality that really shines. He's not stupid, but he believes the best.
The art has great character contrast: some are all loose lines and swishes and others are solid, dark, bold lines. All of them have dimension and emotion. And when the Prince comes to life, it's simply, but beautifully drawn.
And you know what? It's funny too!
If Asato-sensei starts this one up again, I'll definitely be buying it!

I really like this series, but I wanted to comment to add to what NightSwan said. The movie, Mannequin, just as NightSwan summarized it as, is about- "A guy who found a display doll, that turned human at nights only for his eyes."
The plot is quite similar, but there some significant differences (Like how Private Prince is two males, lol). When I watched that movie, I kept thinking, "I want Private Prince to be updated!" I hope it is soon. Read Private Prince, and if you like it, check out 'Mannequin."

I am SO glad that I read this, and anyone who hasnt read it yet will really regret it!! Instead of most yaoi that just focus on the sex, this story has a really intriguing plotline as well as interesting characters. The art is really good too.
