Worth Reading. Comedy+Action

I enjoy re-reading this series. Season one is complete and free to read on EN Webtoon (as of this review).

It doesn't have a lot of depth. In other words, what you see is what you get; an impressive martial artist tries to revitalize his original sect without revealing his true identity. It is a funny comic with a lot of action and no fillers. If you're looking for a long, casual martial arts comic that's not-so-serious, then give this story a go. Although I said it's "not-so-serious," it still has stuff like debt, betrayal, and other serious matters. It has a story.

I initially put it off because of the art style depicted in the cover and in the first chapter, but it's not as bad as I thought.

Great so far

This one is probably one of the best martial arts story out there, straight into the top 10 at least.
Pretty much every aspect of it is good. Story while being nothing special, just a re-used trope, is done well, after the initial intro and reincarnation it goes straight into worldbuilding and presenting the situation of the sect after its fall when facing the Heavenly demon, from there till now it has mostly been training arcs and development of the MC, the sect disciples and the sect itself, all well presented, cohesive and interesting.
The characters are also interesting, it's mostly centered on the MC so far, he's a weird mix of hard working and lazy, a char of greys, upright but not always, aggressive but strangely caring, except when he doesn't care... uptight with others disrespecting his fellow sect members but he's not particularly respectful of them, etc. and, he really likes to beat the crap out of those who annoy him. As for the other characters, it has been mostly training for the so far but there are a few interesting ones, both among the disciples and among the rivals and outsiders.
Art is excellent, top notch even for manhwas, it's not only great but the action is easy to follow with good flow from panel to panel.
Pace, so far, great. And dialogues are simple yet satisfying.
Has some humor but it's minor and not in your face, it's mainly some expressions by the MC.
If I had to say some critique, it would be, first, the annoying face the MC does from time to time along with his attitude at times. Second, that the story while well executed and written is in the end rather generic, maybe there are some surprises along the line here but I doubt it to be honest, still a well done rehash is still good.
Overall, a great manhwa, 8.5 so far, time will tell were it goes from there.

Addicting, compelling and fulfilling [Comment left after reading 67 chapters]

It's not as nonsensical as most other cultivation titles and the art is above average, and of course it's definitely not the read to look for if you want a mentally stimulating read or looking for innovation.

It starts very vanilla, like most cultivation manhua/manhwa(s) yet the trick to this title is how good of a job the author is doing in creating compelling antagonists seeming out of thin air and how satisfying thus rewarding it feels to watch them unravel under MC's wit and power.

Very well executed concept, I was pleasantly surprised.

So satisfying

The story and execution are masterful. This manhwa is the perfect combination of humor, drama, and pure satisfaction. It starts out a little slow, but eventually becomes so satisfying with the main character imparting equal parts wisdom and petty spite at every turn. This is one manhwa I can't wait to read every week.

OMG! i love this manhwa so much! I started reading this on asurascans (english webtoon released it a couple of weeks after). I love stories of MC’s returning to the past or reincarnating and showing off their OP skills! 1 thing i wish that the MC (Chung Myung) had given his cultivation pills (which he no longer needs) to his Mount Hua sect disciples so they can become stronger. But he let get them get beat up by their rival sect.

So, I encountered this story on WEBTOON, and I enjoyed it a lot so I started to see if there were additional releases online. Somehow, I had missed the fact that the manga site I most frequently use (Asura Scans) had been scanlating it. The next few chapters were extremely enjoyable to read. A few of the story elements are similar to volcanic age (murim, reincarnation of an important individual, learning in secret) and it’s just as enjoyable in both manhwas (I think they’re manhwas). (Also, just because they’re similar doesn’t mean they’re the same, both stories are completely unique and only share a few common tropes done well) As for the MC… I love him. Chung Myung, (I prefer Cheongmyong) is obviously a flat-arc MC, but unlike shounen flat arcs the MC isn’t stupid, does not make silly mistakes, is unafraid of killing, threatening, torture etc. In fact he seems to be the only character so far willing to be the bad guy. (The others are too young or too old) and completely contrary to what logan3 said, he never leaves a job unfinished. Recently he attacked a caravan of people who wronged Mt. Hua and were let off by the elder/ leader. Cheonmyong ended up killing the head of the caravan and letting the others go after taking all their wealth, however as a reader I personally couldn’t care weather he let them off or not since they’re probably never going to show up again and really didn’t deserve to die or anything(they were caught up in an overarching scheme.) Anyways, the MC’s personality also has another unique characteristic which is sadism. In comics usually sadism is used in training arcs for comedy, but I think it’s just part of this MC’s persona and I love it. The author is really great at comedy. Also(this is kind of a brain dump, sorry) the art is beautiful! It’s not the best of the best, but it’s clean and the scenery is gorgeous, same with the plum blossom moves of Mt Hua, which I’m excited to see more of. Anyways, I can almost guarantee this series is going to become something big so you should definitely read it and I hope you enjoy!
