For now i may rate it 3.
But if you are young enough to read this (3-13 years old) or you have a child to educate about a honest life, this is it. You can't find anywhere better manga for kid than this.

Iconic

Doraemon is probably as iconic in Japan (probably all of east asia) as the Simpsons is in the US. But obviously Doraemon is the better one to bring up children with (if you MUST stick them in front of a TV that is). It is imaginative, whimsical, educational, and just plain fun. Our protagonist Nobita is for the most part a pretty useless kid who doesn't stand out in any way (aside from massive laziness). But he has a good heart and we find that out from the adventures he shares with Doraemon, and sometimes his friends along for the ride. Doraemon, the talking robotic cat sent by one of Nobita's scions from the future is both the heart and the facilitator of the series. Doraemon sort of acts as Nobita's mentor, moral compass...and genie (because he's basically capable of doing anything with one of the gadges he pulls from his dimensional pocket). To me, the series is mostly about morality, the choices that you make and what you learn from them. Nobita gets into some serious trouble by mis-using Doraemon's gadgets and he learns his lesson by going back and fixing them.

Something else important to the series is Nobita's support network, his friends and family. This is important because despite all of Nobita's adventures he has to answer to his parents in the end. That is the framework of the series. His friends on the other hand will at times encourage misbehavior, but in the end they can solve their problems together.

For a children's series it is both true to life and bigger than life. A can't miss.

I remember reading this manga when I was a child in China and how much I loved it!
Too bad that I never have the opportunity to finish it... maybe in the near future I will.

If you havn't read Doraemon you can't call yourself a manga reader.
if you havn't dreamed for having a gadget from Doraemon you can't call yourself a person with imagination! A MUST if you are a human, regardless of nations!
