A good part about this story is that Mitsuko is strong and fairly interesting. She is brave and intelligent and I would really loved to have seen more about her. I also liked the historical aspects of the story as they felt fairly immersing.
A pity though that everything happened far too quickly and everything depicted was kinda rushed through. It doesn't do justice to the story and as a result, most of the events have very little impact and lack meaning.
And consequently, there is insufficient characterization for everyone else in the cast.
And I'd say that the overall emphasis was on developing mainly Lady Mitsuko. A shame that since this was based on a series of historical events which seem fairly complex(involving a large cast and massive details), the lack of development kinda dented her characterization by quite a bit. There's just no way you can summarize something so complicated in just 1 volume and hope to even develop much of anyone's character! Perhaps if it's just a few moments of a person's life, yes... but to just portray the development of decades of a person's life. Erm... that's just barely possible to achieve.
Still, it is quite okay for a quick read.
