Description
Daisuke is a 23 year-old new schoolteacher. He ends up being put in charge of a 3rd grade elementary school class since the previous teacher quit, and in that class there's a girl who's quite a troublemaker--Rin Kokonoe. You could call her a masegaki (used to describe a kid that acts more like an adult in some ways), and she's also part tsundere (though more dere than tsun).

Under the ecchi, a good story

The relationship between the male protagonist and the girls reminds me of Zettai Karen Children(recommended), where both guys are sort of a father figure and trying to help them become proper adults, while trying not to fall in love with one of them, and fending off a pervert. Actually they could be carbon copies. the story itself is pretty good, i half expected this to turn into a bad hentai. But it deals more with the emotional aspect than just the physical. Also glad they didnt turn reiji into some fullblown nutjob, hes a bit twisted but just needs a guiding hand like kokonoe. Definitely looking forward to see how this ends. For now I give it a 7, and an 8 if it has a solid ending
Cute Story, Still Sickening, Don't read it.

I found out about Kodomo no Jikan through tvtropes, when I was browsing the website one bored summer day. I'm not into lolicon, and I thought that the series was more like a gag comedy with tons of fanservice and dick jokes. And for a while, that's what it was. So at first, I thought that it was funny....then sickening....then interesting....and then sickening. The first couple of volumes didn't really have a story, and it was mostly just overly detailed loli pics of a bunch little, little girls in disturbingly sexual situations. *Disturbingly*. But I kept reading on recommendations that it "gets better". There's "character development" and the story "comes together". And they were right, it does.
And it was horrifying. I understand that this is a "love" story, but it's not cute or touching or anything like that. Think about it. Throughout the entire manga series, Rin Kokonoe goes about doing things like pulling her panties down and making references to her teacher's dick, putting phallic symbols in her mouth, forcing her teacher to touch her sexually, making references to his sex life, etc etc. Dear god, she's NOT EVEN A TEENAGER. And what's worse is that instead of her teacher reporting her IMMEDIATELY, he simply GOES ALONG WITH IT, on the pretense that he's "trying to help her". He might reject to her actions and pretend to not like them, but he simply allows her to continue sexually harassing him. What the actual fuck? If he wants to help his student, he needs to report her and have her checked out by a child psychiatrist. He needs to talk to the other students and faculty about her behavior. He should have stopped that shit from day ONE.
And it gets "worse". He actually admits in the later volumes that he's "fallen in love with her". With his 9 or so year old grade student. And then starts spewing some bullshit that he fell in love with her because of "who she is" and not her "Age" which means that he's not a pedophile. That's how he rationalizes his feelings for a 9 year old girl. Because apparently, Rin, at 9 years old, has such a stunning personality (never mind her tendency to act like a desperate whore) that he can look past her tiny age and body.....and then the next couple of pages will feature pictures of Rin in very sexual situations, for the sake of fanservice. What the shit.
TL;DR, Don't read it. Seriously. It's just softcore porn and a stupid and fake relationship between a little girl and her 20 something teacher who ends up falling in love with her.

Don't get me wrong; the main story is good and worth the read but alone, gets only a seven from me. It's how he weaves the romance between the four teachers into the lives of the students that makes me give this a nine. It is a wonderfully captivating story that focuses on the psychology of each major character and blends them beautifully. The reason this doesen't have a ten from me is because the story is so good that I HATE how he takes breaks for fan-service. It feels like watching the greatest movie ever but with a distracting person in front of you. Most of the fan-service actually does blend well and have it's place, but there are those few uncalled for moments. Overall, this is a fantastic manga that any boy or girl of the appropriate age should should consider reading.
great lolicon

this manga is a good manga for people just starting in loli genre. i had always read manga with sexualised young girls (pokemon, negima, etc) and this manga pave a way for the more concentrated and serious loli stories. though the ecchiness can be somewhat disconcerting, the real story line and the likable characters drawn me to continue and read on. a worthwhile read.
i don't really like the ending, i think it's best to not read the last 2 chapters. however it still don't detract from my enjoyment, they are adults after all.

It's been ages since I read this, because when I had it got canceled but now that I see it is back I do want to pick up where I left off-with
That said, I can say the manga is ok, it does have heart at times, but there are some heavy loli aspects which I'm not saying anything about just that there are. Someone mentioned the girls were 12..I believe they are actually 8 or 9. I knew this was loli going in..I was curious, never reading it before. The story sounded cute, and it is at times, however I think Rin (and usually Kuro at times) take things too far with teasing Sensei. They could really get him fired because people would believe them if they said he was doing something to them since they are cute little girls. That to me is not funny. I think Rin needs much more disaplin and needs to understand that lying about someone is NOT ok because it can really ruin someone's life. Yes, this is fiction but that does not mean it has to be so outlandish.
I also do not like how they made Reji a bad guy. It's bad enough he was in a relationship with his cousin, now he's preying on her little girl? What I like about Sensei is that he is just a normal guy, he is not into Rin that way. I liked Reiji too until they twisted his mind. As blueseeker said though, he's pretty much projecting his feelings for Rin's mother onto Rin.
On a positive note though-as I said this manga has heart at times. There is more to it then the loli fanservice you get assaulted with in the first few books. Really, they could have taken alot of that out and just focused on the main points-unrequeted feelings, a little sexual inuunedo (because all children are curious), growing up to fast (Rin feeling like she has to take care of Reiji). It would have still been a good read.
Well, now that I heard it's back, I plan on finishing it to see what all happens and how far they go with it-with all the factors. And my favorite character is Kuro chan!

Rin basically saying goodbuy to sensei to be with Reiji because he needed her more.

komodo no jinkan is a serie that was born in the age of lolicon wave, that was the most extreme taboo that time, well the history is well make and well planned, a 12 years old girl that fall in love with her teacher that is 10 ten years older. But she has a tragic past even so small and her tutor is mentally insane still the teacher try to save both of them, making this harder when he fall for her. Isnt a read for teenagers becuase is heavy content with taboos and tragedies.

If anything, don't judge this series or drop it because of the "Lolicon" or "age gap" tags. This series first starts out somewhat humorous in nature, showing the advances of a young elementary school student (Rin) towards her teacher, who is mortified by her actions. But that path quickly changes direction as the series starts to focus on the hardships and suffering of Rin herself, as well as what led her personality to become so terribly messed up.
This story is surprisingly very deep in many aspects. It questions the ethics we hold in society constantly by bringing up the actions we normally consider taboos into question, such as incest and loli.
It stresses on the fact that not everything in life has "good" or "bad" stapled on top of it and that sometimes good people will break the rules because of their situations or follow their heart into the insurmountable wall known as the law.
This manga shows several aspects that are both the best and worst of human nature. But above all, it lets one feel the raw emotions of the characters as they are driven into despair, hope, happiness, and sadness.
Simply put, this is the touching story of a man born too early and a girl born too late.

I do not particularly find lolicon to be to my liking- I find it kinda icky, actually (understatement?)
Kodomo no Jikan is pretty exploitative for the first few volumes. It has copious amounts of fanservice of essentially prepubescent girls. It's pretty messed up. It could definitely do without a lot of the panty shots and scenes of masturbation...><
But then some more serious issues come into play, and the most recent volumes focus more on that than just mindless loli fanservice.
I will say the characters are interesting and very memorable- each one is different, has their own likes, dislikes, etc. I even remember most of the side characters' names.
If you're utterly repulsed by lolicon, you'll probably want to keep away from this one. I am icked out by it, but I can just overlook it in the interest of...well, it's pretty funny. You need to approach this series with an open mind, and if you don't like the loli bits, try to ignore them, because there is more to this story than the cheesecake.
And to topboy- being a girl I can tell you for a fact that about half of the things on your list do happen in real life >>;

Took my like 3 tries to get past the loli and really get into this series, been trying since 2006. As long as you can get past that part, the story is written in a way that Rin (the little girl) acts and thinks at least 4-5 years older than her age. She does have her soft moments as a child, to keep her character possible in reality. Honestly though, this is written in a pure fiction type of way that I don't see why anyone should be even offended.
Nevertheless, its worth the read as it has pretty good amount of both serious and not serious to complement each other.
But please, this series deserves the Lolicon genre tag, keep it there.
