I picked this one up just to see what all the big fuss was about. A lot of times, big hype = big disappointment. But wow, this one did not disappoint. Maybe I'm a bit biased since I'm a fan of the genre, such as Blade of the Immortal, but I'd recommend this to anyone who can stand the gore. Also, some people thought nudity was "unncessary" though I think they actually fit in quite well and make the story more realistic. It's never done as fan service. Although I like story of Blade of the Immortal a little more (probably because of the lack of romance in Vagabond), Vagabond's realism and deep philosophy put it in a class by itself.

Throughout the story, the characters change slowly. It's got a lot more depth than I thought it could hold. Sometimes, it feels like there's just too much fighting - It's like killing someone was natural. Though the story's a bit too gory for me, I still enjoyed the read. Some unnecessary nudity and mature content, but just ignore that and the story's pretty good.

I find myself with no choice but to comment on how impressed I am by this Manga. I knew it was supposed to be great from everything I had seen and heard about it, but I put off starting on it for a while; I certainly regret that.
If you have this manga on your wish list, do yourself a favor and start reading it.

I'm really impressed. I've read Slam Dunk and I thought it was great, but Vagabond is exceptional! This is how a shounen manga is suposed to be.

Call it slow, but for me it adds to the enjoyment of reading and at the same time admiring the quality of the artwork. I read the novel first, and I really like it, and when reading the manga just makes me like the story more and more!! The manga is actually faster-paced than the novel already lol maybe that's why I can cope. There are some scenes that are not discussed in the novel(s) (the edition I read was a compilation) but it's okay.
I'm so hooked to Vagabond now, can't have enough of it..!!
10/10 this is THE manga!

No fancy and over the top sword-play here, just brutal and realistic hack and slash with an awesomely kinetic art style. What would you expect from Takehiko Inoue, author of the Slam Dunk series?
