Love it!

I loved the first series but im not too sure on this one, its gotten better and it seems it's going to get better yet. Its still not as good as the first series but is getting closer, you must remember this is still a hell of a lot better than the average popular manhwa/manga.

I'm still hoping Nine arts is a good guy or someone is impersonating him and he will come back as a good guy and im pretty sure one of those scenarios will be revealed to be true.

Not good at all

The first series was pretty good but sucked near the end. This one is just deplorable. good guys are now bad guys, the characters are weak, great characters from the first series are completely gone, and the writing plays right to the lowest common denominator. Don't waste your time, just forget about ever reading this; It'll do you good.

I thought things would pick up, but it feels like they never did.

As one more recent reviewer mentioned, once the MC gets into a position of power, his 'niceness' is revealed for what it is: milksop weakness, wishy-washyness, and generally just major lameness.

The harem the MC develops is very indicative of his castrated nature: that loser seemingly decided he will be a virgin for life ('cuz that's 'nice', I guess?), in spite of all the freaking gorgeous pussy throwing itself at him? So annoying!

Very little of what is going on really makes sense in the larger story (especially when you include the prequel), and after a while of MC-lameness and meandering story, I just lost interest and stopped reading.

Freaking MC needs to MAN UP.

i can't understand why so many people give it such a high score. yes, the original breaker is cool, quite dark, and despite unconnected story elements (or maybe, yet to be explained) still being a page turner. the sequel, in the miserable contrary, has nothing really nice happened. i've waited until teens of chapter, i can't handle the boredom, i dropped it. i check it again at 36th, no luck. this title is now nothing but pictures of beautified girls and boys. just like korean pop entertainment as i know it, "it herp so much it derp."

I honestly hate the mangaka, because he turned it after a seinen into a shounen. The Breaker was darker and more mature than this sequel and i liked it. But The Breaker NW is so fucking annoying shounen if you compare it with the prequel

The first Breaker was pretty great and it started off with a lot of humor. Goomoonryong acted like the classic pervy sensei who also dispensed tough love on Shioon. The series pretty much had Shioon getting his butt kicked most of the time and the action didn't really become epic until the end. It also had some tragedy with certain characters dying. The story was really about the master and student relationship which included Shioon and his master and Goomoonryong and his master too.

New Waves takes place within a few weeks after that climactic battle. This story of course focuses on new characters as well as Shioon. So I expect somethings to take time to flesh out. The story seems in part dealing with the story behind the Sunwoo clan which was severely weakened because some had supported Goomoonryong after the famous tournament (this was first mentioned in the original Breaker). Its going to take time for Shioon to develop new abilities (as of chapter 29 we seem to have gotten a hint where this is going), introduce new characters and I'm sure reintroduce old ones from the original breaker. We may see Sosul reappear but I'm sure it will take time for her to get healthy and that will probably be later than sooner.

So far New Waves is not bad. Shioon is finally showing some backbone and he seems to be developing a potential harem (Sahee, Sosul, Jini, etc.). My only complaints are that we don't see enough of Sahee. Shioon goes thru a lot to protect her, and he credits her and his master as changing him but she's almost never around. My other complaint is he may be developing the talent of making people like him or changing people, this sounds a little too Naruto-like. Its also not quite as funny as the first chapters in the original and I think the story is a little choppy having moved to a weekly schedule. I tend to wait until there is 4-5 chapters out and read them together and I find the story is a bit smoother that way.

However, I do not find it boring. I think it still has a lot of potential. Some of the critics here seem to forget it wasn't action every chapter in the first Breaker and Shioon was a punching bag for most of that series. However, he put up a helluva fight towards the end of that series. If people just want endless fighting chapter after chapter (sometimes hundreds of chapters) with no character development or almost no plot beyond "he's the bad guy, must beat him up!" Then go ahead and read Bleach or Dragonball there's plenty of that in those manga. Me? I will stick with New Waves and give the author and artist a chance to develop the story, they deserve the chance after creating the excellent original.

As of now I will give it a 9, subject to change if the series gets better or takes a nose dive.
***********update************
Ok, so it was starting to look up briefly (Shioon's fight with sword boy was pretty good), but now that I'm at chapter 75 I'm wondering if its ever going to stop dragging. I think the new weekly format might be really hurting it. The original Breaker had a good balance of comedy, action and drama. I'm finding the comedy in NW lame, the action meh, and the drama forced. I'm downgrading it to an 8 and we will see if it continues to drop or if it can right itself.

I've loved this series since reading part 1 and I actually think that the pace for part two is perfect. It sort of reads like a novel and I like how the author slowly sets things up. Of course, waiting for Shioon to get his powers back can be nerve-racking but we finally see the beginning of this in the recent chapters. I do wish that the author had super powers as well though. Then we could get 10 chapters a week. *coughs*

So overrated just because the 1st one was good. .Well i don't know about your opinion but for me. . this is really boring now. . slow plot development, stupid kid protagonist(i miss the sensei) and other yada yada yada. . unless they do something mind blowing. . i might drop this soon(already dropped it). . the author isnt really good at making the readers want to look forward to what happens next cause even the cliff hangers suck!. .
