In the US it is mainly setup in bars on a stage, therefore extreme public embarrassment if you mess up.

This is just false. I live in LA and theres a million asian style karoke places in ktown. Im sure this is the same for Little Tokyo as well. I know it's not just LA too; there should be at least one in every major city with any sort of asian population. Being Korean, I've gone a few times (mostly with girls) and I enjoy it alot. I'm not embarrassed in the least in letting everyone know just how badly I sing biggrin

If I tried it I'd probably roll over and die from embarassment.
And then everyone would do the same because they've just heard my marvelous voice that reminds everyone of American Idol rejects.

Well it might be a handy mass-murder weapon smile

I have, and still is.
With my friends. When we try to do all the high noted or the hard to do ballad songs and fail it's sooo funny.
But, korean karaoke bars they are too expensive these days.
In korea it was like $1 - $5. But... here it's $30. It costs too much for 1 hour. T.T

Does singing annoying songs at the top of your lungs with a bunch of friends on the bus count? 'Cause that's about as close as I've come.
And when I say annoying, I mean "100 Bottle of Beer on the Wall" and teh theme song from Veggie Tales.

I would never>.> (insulted tone) laugh

No, I don't.
My voice isn't that great, and not trained at all. I would not humiliate myself with doing karaoke.

Karaoke?
But my parents do own a MagicMic or is it MagicSing.
Something they bought in the Philippines.

As for me I Rockband it!
And to the horror of my friends, it's really bad...
They say I might be better if I was drunk...
But they can never keep me still to sing when I'm drunk...

Yes I do. We have a karaoke system at home and it's the second one...The first one diedconfused

My mom's the one who uses it the most even though her voice is emmm...terrible... and she gets such low scores that we often tease her about it laugh

I do karaoke (rarely sober though), even won some prizes laugh
but that was solely because of the energy put in the performance (quality of voice and such nonsenses had nothing to do with it).

Favorite song would be My way by Frank Sinatra.

Only on holiday when too drunk to care about the fact I can't sing a note though me and my friends regularly play singstar, like Karaoke for the playstation when you get points for correct notes. It's a laugh and in the privacy of her bedroom and we both suck so it's not a big deal.
