As long as they're badass, not weak, and not yaoi.
Then they're always appreciated.

I only like them when they are well crafted characters.
If they're just there for eye-candy, then it's a big no.

If the chicks in Love Hina are bishoujos, then bishoujos seem a lot less two dimensional than bishounens. The chicks in Love Hina have way more character than any bishounen I've ever seen.

Oh god are you from an another universe? Love hina chicks (CHICKS!) have way more character? laugh

Don't like them, don't know if they exist in real life but I would get really freaked out if I ever see one.

Seriously, I don't understand how a girl can like a guy that looks like a woman, better go lez.

Ahahaha I would freaked out (too) if I saw some women from hentai in the street. And srsly (too) I don't understand how a guy can like a girl that looks like a child (/an actual child) or a girl that exists solely for.. gazing.

I hate em! I hate em! I HATE THEM!
seriously, what's the point of having a dude, look like a girl? And why do women find em attractive? you might as well be a lesbian then. actually, I prefer that, since it's kinda hot.

And just think about the shock of being on vacation in Thailand, and thinking you scored a hot thai chick.
and when you get to your hotel room, IT'S A DUDE!!!!!!

And the trans joke! So bigoted it's not even funny.

BECAUSE ITS NOT REAL. bishounen stereotyping in manga, that is.

men are supposed to be handsome. not pretty. however, looks in men is secondary, because,
among men, there are much more valuable quality like determination, achievement, camaraderie, solidarity, etc, etc. in women's eyes, there are also much more valuable quality like protection, leadership, intelligence, etc, etc.

bishounen stereotyping in manga is just plainly wrong. it made bishounen only as eye candy. like a painting you can hang on your wall, to be showed to whoever visits your house, holding no substance, holding no importance. i don't think any man would like to be treated this way. sometimes i wonder, why is manga depreciates so?

no bishounen for me. it grosses me out!

No way! =(
Why do you talk like there are no bishoujos as well? Is your opinions the same for them?
I don't have anything against bishoujos - since I like bishonen - and I think it is wrong to say bishies are just eye candy. I can remember not liking a few of them because they lacked a bright/strong personality =/ Am I the only one? I don't think so...

Idyllic physical appearances for men depend on the culture, actually. Nowadays, in most places I do believe the most commonly appreciated style is "handsome", but I also recall reading somewhere that in Japan's history, beautiful men were the ideal. Not sure how related that is to this topic, but I wanted to put that out there. No one's ever "supposed" to be anything.

As for the "eye candy" thing, that happens to both genders in media, no matter what. Pretty girls everywhere? Hourglass figures? No facial blemishes? Eyes that take of 1/3 of their faces? Triangle noses and little lines for mouths? People in manga tend to look unrealistic no matter what angle you tilt your head. Some mangaka do use a slightly more realistic style, but that's less common.

As for me, I admire well-done art, and it generally doesn't matter what it's of. But I don't reflexively think, "Oh, goodie! A manga-style drawing of guy with minimal distinctive features and a narrow chin! How sexy!" every time I see some generic bishie picture. But if it's a nice drawing, I can still appreciate it.

I don't really care... as long as characters aren't one dimensional I'm happy

I also don't really care if the characters are attractive so long as they are multi-dimensional and engaging.

I started out as a big fan of typical pretty, bishie-filled art styles. As I continued to read, though, I started to dislike those styles. Now I am more of a fan of the semi-realistic art in series like Eternal Sabbath and Cesare (HER ART IS BEAUTIFUL. ALWAYS) and Kokou no Hito. I also really love the slightly vintage-style art in series like Himitsu.

I secretly (sometimes; it really depends on how I'm feeling) like the really ethereal, gentle, doll-like drawings in series like Beautiful Fascination is Better than Love (which didn't really stand out too much to me except for its art, and the art was only beautiful in some panels...) or Naked Ape's art.

Also... Kamatani Yuhki. It's a little unconventional, especially now that it's developed, but I love it.

This is manga, not realistic in the first place.

I completely agree with imp4ever. This works both ways, a lot of girls like bishounens, as a lot of guys like er...girls with jugs bigger than their heads, but whatever. Is it realistic? No, but heck manga's fiction.

That's insulting to a lot of painters whoever said paintings lack substance and importance... Some painting are pretty damn important and cost a pretty penny too. Why is it that looks are secondary for men? Does that apply to women as well?

Bishies are just a preference. I like to read and look at nice art, so I love 'em. Why hate on art that a mangaka has put effort in? I

Depends on the character.
Usually if they are interesting/have a special charm to them/have good character development I'll like them. Esepcially the character development part. Ooooh, any character with great character development is a big yes for me.
