Do you all really have to quote, considering how long the quoted posts are?

I don't really draw. Only time I did so was when I was 11 trying to draw Dragon Ball Z characters.

I draw humanoids and ugly things, but not in the lame manga style.
But you're a pretty regular manga reader. Is that a sign of being snobbish and not considering manga and anime "art" because they are like cartoons? Or maybe manga is too "cutesy" for you?
I'm not setting out for an argument, so I find it a fair question to ask.
Manga art is ravishing the originality of people.
When people draw nothing but manga characters...
I find it sad.
Scyfon Shock!~
Does that mean I'm sad? ;_;
Actually the whole hate against drawing manga style kinda ticks me off. You think anyone painted much different in Leonardo's time? Everyone around him tried to like he could. My problem is when people don't draw manga style they copy manga style. Manga/anime type drawing has many variations, you can still be unique while keeping the fundamentals the same. As long as the way you draw isn't generic I think your fine.
The reason it is looked down upon to draw just manga is because its easy to copy, easy to learn, and can be adapted from any how-to book. Most people who draw in an manga style have only trained themselves by drawing doodles in calculus and pasted it on deviantart. Its disrespectful for so much recognition to be placed on pieces that don't give a second thought to a subject. But its especially disrespectful for the people who have been adapting their skills since they were 6 years old and younger. Soon enough, classical and traditional art and photography will be completely disregarded for cartoons and american knock-off "manga."
I'm not saying all manga style art is bad, its just that most is generic. In fact, some is very very good, but they are simply exceptions.
I don't[] think you understand the times we're living in at all. Sure, a 10 minute doodle isn't art but some of us find manga as an exellent and modern way to express ourselves, and for your information its dissult to commit anatomy to memmory, a skill you need to hone in order to create manga characters.Sure, some of the generic eye shapes that are used in fan-service mangas like love hina are giving manga a bad name but if you really care to look you will find that some mangas are deeply insightful and tell a story. We've come a long way since Leonardo's time , young people back then were resticted by strict social bounderiesand art had rules and limited creative expression, now people use a combination of classical and modern techniques to create art, they're not limited to religious painting and portraits which take an enormous amount of time."Classical" art hasn't dissapeared, it has evolved.
"Restricted by art rules"? These "rules" still exist. Look at art schools. If there was nothing about art to learn about, why would they exist? There are plenty of critics around, who's more than willing to rip a picture apart.
That's what wrong with a huge majority of manga artists: they ignore these rules. They think manga is just their ticket to becoming an artist. Fundamentals, what fundamentals? These people don't realize that, like with most skills, it takes practice. They find that real people are too difficult for them to master, so they take the more appealing, simplified, anime face instead. And when someone points out the error, they cower and say it's their "style". It's in this way that art is deteriorating.
You can pin down Picasso and argue that his art is no better, but if you've ever seen his sketches before, it showcases his firm understanding of anatomy. Besides, he was acclaimed for another reason, but I won't get into that.
I'm not saying that every manga artist is like that, and it's those people who shine above the carbon-coping posers.
And you must be able to understand reality before you can warp it to benefit yourself.
I'm just gonna ask you this: Why so serious?
Manga isan't created to be realistic or because we artsists who draw in taht particular style are lazy. Its a much more flexible style to draw in, tahts all, you can make it as deatailed or as simple as you want it, and it will still be unqiue and fun. Drawing art shouldn't be a contest of who can draw the most realistic or the most detailed art, its a means of self-expression. Its delightful to looks at and evokes emotions to the reader/artist and the best part is anyone can create manga, not just "proffesionals".
