Heartless main characters take my vote, since they are generally the most fun to read about and typically have good stories behind their heartless personalities. Though I have to admit I've never come across a completely heartless character.
The "Burning desire to succeed/refusal to surrender" is cool, but only if that character loses once in a while (biggest example that comes to mind is Luffy from One Piece). It's boring if someone exhibits this trait but still manages to pull a victory out of his/her @$$ every time.

Ingenuity.
I wanna go "Daaayyuum awesome!" when I read.
The rest of the options are meh.

I'll go with kindness and honesty since that's the closest trait to what im thinking.

Kindness and honesty is what I look for in a protagonist. Also the burning for desire/refusal to surrender is also that I want in a protagonist. I love both characteristics.

Emotionally weak/broken with lots of character development because you get to see them grow as a person and they usually already have or will develop traits that are like the other choices on the poll.
Yes!
Hhm, but I also like the heartless kind.

I like main characters that are batshit insane. Crazy. Emotionally volatile and unstable. ^____^

"Burning desire to succeed/refusal to surrender" is good, but after the main character proclaiming this every chapter (not to mention this attitude is often paired with an "I'm the best ever" quality) it gets old fast.
I voted for "Someone plain hopeless"
Kind of like in Himizu

How about the characters with common sense? Lots of characters just seem to make really idiotic decisions, makes me slap my forehead and think "No one would ever be this dense in real life, COME ON " Yeah, anyone the OPPOSITE of this one is who i enjoy

Chose ingenuity. Sneaky intelligent types are my favorites since they really are so rare nowadays. Too many morons, wimps and perverts out there and your standard never give up and invincible hero characters are even more played out.
Kiichi Goto from Patlabor is my favorite sneaky intelligent character.

Yep, Like Yuu from Holyland...though there are a lot of crapy characters with this feat that remain crapy and just get false development.
Second of course is ingenuity...he/she has to use them brains.

I really like the Burning desire to succeed/refusal to surrender and Someone plain hopeless. Sorta like Hachibei in Love Collage.

For me, ingenuity and day to day courage. What else is more appealing?

i picked heartless, i mean almost every story i read the protagonist is some nice guy who never backs down from something and if he does someone else always pushes him forward to do it anyway. I think I'd rather read a manga about a coward than a manga about a guy who wrecklessly jumps into things.
usually its the antagonist that makes a story interesting imo since the hero usually has a cliched back story.
(potential spoilers) I guess i dont mind if they grow a heart later since berserk and gantz have done that with their main protagonist.
I guess what im trying to say is that i appreciate realism in a character.
