Another poll similar to a recent one, but residentgrigo suggested we put the emphasis on bad story now. Is good characters enough to keep you reading a series?

You can submit poll ideas here
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: Do you smoke?
Choices:
No, and I've never tried it - votes: 5602 (68.3%)
Used to, but I quit - votes: 389 (4.7%)
No, but I've tried it before - votes: 1518 (18.5%)
Yes, regularly - votes: 382 (4.7%)
Yes, just a little - votes: 312 (3.8%)
There were 8203 total votes.
The poll ended: March 17th 2018

Alcohol was a more popular poll, but smoking is still 2nd most popular of all the polls in the last 5-ish months

The first option seems a bit weird, is it not supposed to say "other" characters mmm...~?

Btw I picked "I'll keep trying in hopes that the story improves", there are many stupid manga with lovable characters and I keep reading that mmm...

I picked keep trying but the first thought that came to my mind that fit this scenario perfectly is RWBY. Although yes, not a manga, it's a similar situation where the story needs a lot of work but some of the characters (4 main girls) are SO GOOD and have so much potential that I'll keep watching to see their development. They are the reason I am invested in the show. They are the reason I keep watching the show.

Chose ' I'll keep trying in hopes that the story improves ', like the previous time on the similar vice versa poll.
Though this one was tougher than the previous one. You see I had some prior situational experience on the subject, that being the case, at the end it totally depends on the theme of the story and genre and demographics. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that you can't tolerate it, right?! At least for the most part. So, it comes down to tolerance level for me. I finished Bleach you know!
I will axe it, if it becomes too annoying or boring.

@lambchopsil - MU is Adult to Young-Adult majority community. Or we got many mischievous minors. wink I for one, is part of the Young-Adult group.
Btw, while the 1st option taken from (or similarly used as) the previous character poll here, you should consider removing the word 'other' there.

I'm not even sure how you separate characters from the story. A story is basically an account of what characters do. Bad characters can't create a good story for me. If I think the story is good, then I also like the characters. So I suppose my answer should be "Stop reading."

Story is far, far more important than characters - characters can easily change (and that, in fact, can be an important part of a good story) while author's ability to create a good story is extremely unlikely to improve without lots and lots of time - so a story that was bad in the beggining is not going to get much better; the opposite (author running out of ideas) is far more likely.

That's what I get for copy/pasting from an old poll late at night...

My answer for this is pretty much the opposite of my answer for the inverse version from a couple of weeks back: I'll keep trying in the hope that the story improves, because, for me, finding characters I love is much rarer than finding a plot I like.

Probably an excellent example is Tiger & Bunny, the anime. A very simplistic elementary-school type plot, but I really liked the characters (especially the main duo), so I kept watching until the end. It wasn't a bad experience, all told.

For me it's option 3, stop reading. Story is what mold the character so I don't see how bad story and good character can co-exist.

Bad story is not to be mistaken for simple story.
