This week has another poll suggested by 8-3. You know how in magazine scans there's usually text on the side that announces news items, new series, or just plain advertisements? Do you think those should be translated?

You can submit poll ideas here
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: A trademarked name is used in the text, but the author blanked it out or altered it. What should the translator do?
Choices:
Change it to a generic (i.e., chocolate snack) - votes: 242 (5.3%)
Change it to the actual name (i.e., Pocky) - votes: 712 (15.5%)
Leave it as the author wrote it (i.e., Poc*y) - votes: 3640 (79.2%)
There were 4594 total votes.
The poll ended: May 26th 2018

Pretty overwhelming results

If it's news related to the series (eg: a sequel is planned, the anime adaptation will be out soon, next chapter will be delayed, etc.) I'd prefer that it be translated, though it doesn't matter even if it isn't since you can get that info from other sources. But if it's unrelated stuff or just plain propaganda (or even recaps), there's really no need to translate them, it's time better spent on making the actual content more polished. So I'll go with the first option.

Yeah, sometimes those texts are nonsense that has nothing to do with the manga, so I think it's okay for scanlation teams to not translate them mmm...

Choose Leave it untranslated. It's not important.
Though a option saying Translator's Choice would've been appreciated and more preferable imo.

Leave it untranslated. It´s unrelated after all and the final tankobon releases won´t feature these anyway.

Mostly leave it untranslated, but some pieces of text might be interesting to some people (maybe.) If it says about a new manga by the same author or simply say something about another manga, that might be somewhat important to some people who would want to check it out. But even then it would simply be a nice bonus. It doesn't change much if you see/read it or not.

If it is completely unrelated - as opposed to, say, behind the scenes information - remove it.

I'm surprised how many people answered "translate everything" including unrelated magazine text. I wonder if readers don't realize that that equals much slower releases?

If it's really unrelated then the best case scenario for me is not just leaving it untranslated but also redrawing over the text. But that takes up even more time...

We can sympathize with a pencil. We can forgive a shark. People can find the good in just about anything but themselves. You are all better than you think you are.”
