it turned into desert and the mc was a teen boy (age around 16-18), who tour around the earth because he was see the world and meet many people

there he help many people and asking them their opinion about the world end, does it stil have hope or not

it was not desert punk, i remember this was old manga, i think around year 2000-ish

the story was good, i think it was kinda popular
