While axed endings are incredibly annoying, I find it even more irritating when the series finishes and not everything is tied up. Too many questions left unanswered and with no sequel planned? Awful, especially because that's how the mangaka chose to end the series. With axed endings they don't have as much control so I don't expect a tied up ending but yeah man the ones that just end it open. I hate it. I think an example I can give that did this to me recently was After Hours. Really disliked the ending, which is a shame because v1 and 2 were great. I need some sort of conclusion at the end for the main characters.

Axed/abrupt ending, obviously. I understand why people might pick "cliffhanger" instead, but to me the unfulfilled potential that was nipped in the bud just because the author couldn't conform to the majority's boring stereotyped expectations is much more infuriating.

Has to be axed.. As much as I don't like unanswered questions, I like imagining answers to them still... but when it just ends out of the blue because author and publisher had a disagreement or something it is so disheartening...

The endings where nothing is ever answered or given closure. That pretty much soured the Blue Drop animation for me. Still a great series, but I will never get over that. Second worst would have to be a tie between "Story would have ended the same way regardless of protagonist(s)'s actions" (See Jurassic Park 5) or "Let's solve everything by solving absolutely NOTHING" (To Love-Ru and Bioshock Infinite both did this. But, it's been years since I read the former, so I'll have to see if it is as bad as I remember.).

If I could choose all 3 of these: Ending with too many unanswered questions, Axed or abrupt ending, or Cliffhanger/suspenseful ending, I would. Seems like everyone hates those, too. 😀

All of the last 3 answers to this poll kind of overlap, but I ultimately picked Ending with too many unanswered questions because personally, I've never been in love with a manga that got axed. I've followed manga that have been axed, but half the time I actually really appreciate that the editors finally put that dead series I couldn't stop reading out of its (and my) misery, and the other half the time, the series is just too new for me to have a strong opinion. Even when it seems promising, the axe has never given me a really major disappointment.

In contrast, when too many threads are just left completely unresolved, and the manga-ka makes it clear that they have no interest in resolving those threads, I just go crazy. You built this awesome world with these crazy mysteries and you have no interest whatsoever in answering them? Certain kludge world mechanics are fine to leave alone (I don't expect Oda to explain why devil fruits exist, for instance--and I'm honestly shocked that the dragon ball origin story has been retconned and reexplained three different times: first Kami, then the Namekians, then the super dragon balls), but if you give your characters a big mystery in the world that they spend any time "wondering about" rather than "taking for granted", I expect them to fucking solve it

ignoring the last three options I have to go with the first one. Why does the story need to end at becoming lovers when it's just starting to get good?

Bleach is a perfect example of what I was talking about.... when I get more than a couple volumes into a manga, I can never put it down, so I was so relieved when it finally got cancelled. That was a really bad manga after the soul society arc.
