From Vudodude :
Quote
Money itself is just a place holder for favors. Consider it an IOU. You work, therefore you get a certain level of IOU that you can exchange for other things. In the past when currency was less dominant, there was trade. Your favor comes in the form of your product. So if you produce food, that is your favor, and others will try to win your favor by doing work for you or trading for their favors. It is only when bartering and trading evolved that currency was born, but before that it was done through work. When you were taxed, you gave food not money.

Yeah i know that ( not to much but still remember my history lesson ), but money is still an evolved way of trade and i don't think that that "old trade" could still work now and even if we find something better, i hardy think that " something " wont be based on trade.

What i wanted to say is how could we be abble to maintain our society wihout money. For me it's impossible, that's why i say it's a necessity.

And well everything had it's advantage and it's default.

The best things in life are free, or something like that.

Money may not be what I live for, but it definitely defines social standing. Although I live for no definite reason, money is a major creation that is necessary to live. So yeah, the world can't function without money, but it isn't what everyone lives to get more of.

People who say they don't live for money have never had to live without it.

If money is so unimportant, by all means, give it to me.

I guess it depends on your outlook on life.

That is true too. Depends how much charitable you are that what you give away for what you get is a gain rather than a loss if you see it that way

I think some people are misunderstanding what it means to live "for" money.

Here is an example(and a really bad one) of what it means to live for something: A man is stranded on an island and he needs food to live. This man does whatever he can to get food. Does this mean he is living for food? No, he is living for the sake of his survival. Food just helps him reach his goal.

Well, I like money, but only because when I was little I had a traumatic experience that involved not having enough money saved up. It scarred me for life, and ever since, I cannot stop hoarding money. T_T (So, the story is, when I was little I was REAALY into Harvest Moon, the one for the NES. Anyway, my cow got sick, but I didn't have enough money for medicine, and then when I finally got enough, it rained for three days straight, thus the shops were closed... and then my cow died. Doesn't sound very scarring, but I was like... 5, and I practically LIVED inside the game. )

Not to mention money is sooo useful. Not to mention I don't think we could live today without it. I mean, I'm not going to haul around a basket of turnips to trade them for a computer.....

Yeah you are right! I think that's the misunderstanding that is being missunderstood. People live for their survival in this world, not for money itself. Well maybe other people want more...for example to live like a king/queen.

well it is very possible for a person to like money...because you need it to live...

like me i like money but i dont live for it...because money is meant to be spent and thats why there is money...its like loving a person but not living for that person!! <get what i mean??>

so the bottom line is true happiness and love can never be bought with money...maybe you can buy it now but later on you will just feel empty...

oh and another thing...do not mistaken living comfortably in luxury as real happiness...

No, money can't buy happiness.
If I can be happy, I don't care if I'm poor.

I need money for what I plan to do. My dreams aren't for personal gain.
