... are rising. With the recent (succesful) test of their nuclear "bomb/racket" whatever, threat seems to loom in, and this might get out of hand if it continues.

Other countries might think of "arming" themselves as a means to defend themselves. This can even lead to Japan remilitiarizing their country.

Pyongyang (capital of North Korea) already has stepped out of the "six-party discussion" consisting out of the USA, Russia, China, South Korea and Japan.

We still don't know whose side China will pick, as well. ¯\(O_o)/¯

Well a few translations of Mayan temple walls and stuff (all their books where destroyed by the Christian fuckers) say 2012 is going to be a Year of changes...

Maybe the changes are Nuclear Holes in 20% of the earth?

Nevertheless If this gets out of hand and a war breaks (NUCLEAR WAR or WWIII) I already have a couple of plans to survive it... for starters there is NO reason to attack my shitty country... YEAH the world Economy will crumble and many countries won't have enough food for their civilians... but that is not going to stop me from living bigrazz

UNLESS a fucker misses a Nuke and hits my third world country >_<

@Identity Crisis/Chaos: The 2012 date is inaccurate- the actual one would have already passed.

@Chaos: Look up what happens during nuclear winter. It doesn't exactly work like that- strikes on cities can cause global atmospheric changes. No food for anyone, not just those in the nuclear club. So yeah, it's possible, but don't kid yourself.

Japan's probably not going to be able to remove article 9 from the constitution. If they did China would have severe issues with it due to certain issues in their past (should be obvious).

Ultimately, it's unlikely that a lot will happen. On the off chance that their nuclear program did get up and running completely, there wouldn't be much of a chance to do anything. It would only serve as deterrence, which could have a lot of ramifications for North Korea's political system in the future, I suppose, but ultimately not nearly as scary as it's made out to be.

At least here. Remember, I'm getting most of my extreme opinions from Japanese civilians, and they're a little irrational about north korea.

very well put crenshin. Just think of it as the time when the US vs The former Soviet union. It just that a lot of countries are playing catch up. When the US is trying to downsize Nuclear weapon usage the countries who did not have the technology until the fall of the soviet union are now trying to establish themselves as a significant power to the world. Oh and china would probably choose the side which best resembles their political system. People will start to worry because now the US has a president that is less likely to us military power. Which is why North Korea is thumbing their nose and doing as they please, with no concern of their South Korean neighbors. no no sad

I figured, but I wanted to nip it in the bud before it got too out of hand- every once in a while there's a person who resides somewhere in the bowels of the internet who really takes that stuff seriously. Funny at first, but it gets old fast, you know? Or maybe I'm just imposing my pet peeves on the rest of you... I do tend to do that.

And thanks, you two.

Mayan Translations are very inaccurate as well, for all we know Mayans could had predicted their doom fall or ours, is a matter of what you want to believe.

Nostradamus makes a draw of a wheel and it suddenly means 2012 is going to be the year the world ends... see? completely suggestive.

Problem is I live RIGHT in the Ecuador line, so Nuclear winter would indeed cause a LOT of problems, but is not an extreme obstacle, not to me at least, there are a lot of things that could go wrong, but the effects in my country and those around it should be minimal compared to those that receive several gifts from the sky.

Is indeed Very unlikely that things will just suddenly escalate into a War and much less WWIII: the revenge of the dicks!!!, but I can always get mentally prepared, you know... just in case it ends happening bigrazz

I have no interest in political affairs, but it seems that "something" related to nuclear weapons is going to happen...
Quote from BBC News
Pyongyang has blamed its decision on South Korea joining a US-led initiative to search ships for nuclear weapons, calling it a "declaration of war".

"Any hostile act against our peaceful vessels, including search and seizure, will be considered an unpardonable infringement on our sovereignty," said a spokesman for the North's army.

"We will immediately respond with a powerful military strike."

eek
Quote from BBC News
It ejected all international monitors and said it would reopen its main nuclear plant at Yongbyon, which was closed in July 2007 as part of a disarmament deal.

And about the Mayan calendar, well, it does not end in 2012, but the date 21/12/2012 is the end of the "Great Cycle", an unit they used for a long period of time, and after that it'll be a new period. However, there will be some problematic changes around that time,so the worry about the world ending is not completely baseless :

The crossing of the sun's path and the galactic equator (yes, the ancient Mayan did recognize this with their astronomy - how awesome...) an event that has been coming to resonance very slowly over thousands and thousands of years. This means the threats from outer space will increase greatly.

The other is the problem of sunspot cycle, which was believed that will reach climax at the end of the Great Cycle, this will flip the sun’s magnetic field, causing earthquakes and flooding on earth. Moreover, the changing magnetic field will alter the endocrine production of the pineal gland eek .However, recent researchs pointed out that, this climax actually is not at that time, but it seems to be in the near future.
