This week's poll was suggested by jacob66. The question was inspired by how some home insurance works (for example, in event of a fire where your belongings are destroyed). If someone offered to give you money in exchange for every item you owned (car, house, computer, clothes), would you do it? The amount of money you would get would be enough to buy new replacement items of similar function. Would you take this chance to start over? Or do some things have too much sentimental value?

No. Partially because there is no monetary value to the things I put work into and intend on getting back after starting over, but also because I do not want to go into a Walmart buck naked to get myself some clothes because I sold everything I was wearing to a stranger for fifty bucks.

No. What's the point?
Materialistic stuff has value on its own - memories I associate with them. Gifts I care about. Stuff I don't want/love/care about I can sell.
Why would I give that away and have hassle replacing my stuff for literally nothing?

No. It would take many days of effort to get things. Would also need to be paid for the time I wasted on it.

Yes. But only to be able to move somewhere else... Would most likely get more or less the same stuff I already have once I've gotten a new house.

No. "Replace with equivalent function".. Doesn't seem to be any benefit for me? Unless they would replace my stuffs with an upgraded version..
Well, I would answer it with a yes if I were to be isekai somewhere though. 😂😂

Yes. Replacement furniture, replacement tech equipment, a replacement car. What not to like here? I also just moved so I already had to deal with getting new stuff and transportation.

Exactly - the replaced stuff won't hold the same value as the original one when it comes to sentimental value and uniqueness of the ones that are handmade.
Monetary? Could replace it myself if I wanted or needed to, like the furniture and such.
So for me - NO.

Just because something is functionally equivalent doesn't mean that it will adhere to the same quality and manufacturing standard that the product is replacing. Setting aside the downtime of getting everything back as well as things that holds sentimental value, unless the stuff you own is at the bottom of the barrel in terms of quality and / or is about to break down, that would be a no for me.

Yes. I don't have a lot of money or possessions anyway. I'm tired of my old things and I just want everything replaced.

This is one of those seemingly tough questions that's actually simple as all hell when you think about it with even a smidgen of logic. Absolutely not.

I'm a hoarder and tend to collect too many things anyhow. It takes a while to sell off random stuff you own for the equivalent price (rather than at a steal). It'd actually be really convenient if someone could do all that work for me and I could start over with a big shopping fund! It's not like I'd lose the memories I had from before.
