We at Illuminati-Manga are looking for Editors, Typesettors and Quality Checkers for various projects.

The following projects are in need of Editors:

-Get Backers
-Full Metal Panic
-History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi
-Space Cobra Adventures*
-Elfen Lied*
-Fruits Basket
-Gantz Manual*

* Experienced would be preferred, as there is A LOT of tough redraws.

The following projects need Typesetters:

-Get Backers
-Full Metal Panic
-Shonan Jun'ai Gumi
-History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi

And we could use Quality Checkers on almost all of our projects.

If you're willing to help us out on any of these projects, post here or apply here.

If you're new and willing to learn, we can teach you. That isn't a problem at all. A lot of the current staff at Illuminati-Manga are those that we've taught from scratch. Of course, there are some people (like lamb and DarKClaW) that have been (or still are) in many scanlation groups previously. But, like I said, a lot of our staff are people we've taught.

Anyway, thanks a lot for reading this.

PS: More translators would be great too!

Can you tell me more about QC'ing? I'm interested in becoming one, but I don't really know what exactly it is.

From what I know, I would say that it means checking the edited and typesetted scans for mistakes like leveling, bad redraws, poor cleaning, text that isn't in the center of a text bubble, etc...

If I'm wrong please correct me, or if you can give me more info please do so. My talents might not be the best, but I'm training myself by reading detective conan bigrazz and if you're in desperate need of QC'ers I might be able to help you out. I have loads of free time to spend. (well, not right now since exams are coming up, but after that...)

I'd also like to try for quality checking, my projects and exams are almost done so i'll be having quite a bit of free time in a while too.

And though i've never done any editing for manga's and stuff, i'm pretty efficient with Photoshop & Illustrator, so if you want i can help with editing too. You can send me a test image to edit to see what i can do.

GGpX, you take care of these people while I explain QCing...

QCing, is basically proofreading but more duties. The proofreading side is checking the script for English mistakes like grammar and spelling. The other side to it is just like what you mentioned. Is the editing alright? Scans leveled and rotated? Are they the correct dimensions? Text placement like centering and other stuff is also included. If anything looks weird, report it~ There's also an issue with knowing the manga. Are names spelled correctly? Is a certain spell/technique correct? Anything unique about the manga you need to know about? Even though it can be correct in English, it may be wrong for the manga. It's all about keeping consistent.

"take care of them"? But I don't have any weap-- Oh. Not the Italian way. Sorry.

Yeah, sorry. Going to a culinary school makes you a little more Italian than most people.

Download this.

Yes, it's a proofreading test, but it is also used as a QCing test. Yes, it has the AQS tag but since lamb is the one that made it and is generously letting us use it, it's okay. ._.

The test is purposely made to be tough. You'll never have a chapter that is this hard. We want you to effectively gauge your abilities as a QCer with this test.

Enjoy, and good luck.

*bump*

SiLNeT: I'll look over your application tonight. I finally have some time on my hands... to do so.

Anyway, we're recruiting again. Read below...

Illuminati-Manga is recruiting 2-3 All Purpose Proofreaders.

By "All Purpose," we mean "Working on all of the projects."

We could be getting 1-2 chapters a day, or we could be getting 1-2 chapters a week. There's no definite amount we'll get per week.

We are also recruiting 1-2 All Purpose Quality Checkers.

As the chapters are done, we need them to go through Quality Checks to fix mistakes.

Right now we're desperately looking for Quality Checkers. I think we have 5 or 6 chapters stuck in the QC process because our only QCer (lambchopsil) is busy with Manga-Updates, school, and the other groups he's in.

Our requirements:

-You need to come on IRC and idle there. Not 24/7, but at least come on once every 2 days. We don't bite.
-You need to be self-motivated. The whole "What is there to do?" thing is irritating. We have forums. There is work there. If you can't find anything, idle/chat on IRC.
-You need to communicate in proper English. I mean sure, if you chat with me and you use "dont" instead of "don't," I won't mind. It's chat. I don't care. But if you approach me and tell me "yo ddood whas up i went n saw ur postz abuot being a prooferz(...)" I won't even bother replying to you.
-Willing to accept criticism. I don't like criticizing people I like, but I will do it if necessary.
-Both positions have tests. Proofreading position has a test that you have to pass to be accepted. It's about English. You either got it or you don't. For Quality Checking, we have a test to gauge your skills. Unless you drastically fail the test, you should be accepted.

If you're interested PM me on these forums, post here or apply here.

Thanks for reading.

Are you still looking for editors because I'm very much interested. I'm still new at this stuff, I've been practicing for a few weeks but I've been using Photoshop for a long time already. I've been reading scanlations for a while and now I want to be a part of a production team to contribute and hone my skills. Thanks! biggrin

Yup, we are.

If you need tutorials on how to edit,

Basic editing
Everything else

On the second link, the techniques taught are a little out of date, but they still work.

Anyway, when you're confident enough, take the 4 pics at the bottom of the second link and do them. When you're done, send them to me.
