Not sure how Fullmetal Alchemist outranks Kekkaishi in popularity unless the anime makes that big of a difference. I have not watched many eps of the anime but I'm hoping once it gets officially licensed here in US and maybe gets some airtime on Cartoon Network it can begin to enjoy the success of FMA as Kekkaishi is one of the most refreshing shonen manga ever. It really complements Naruto and where that manga has now matured into a more nuanced serious manga..Kekkaishi packs the action and growing conspiracy that Naruto part one featured in spades. Great read!!

Im a fan too, manga not the anime tho. It's got just enough shounen stereotype to be good. wish the plot was farther along tho

The anime does indeed make that much of a difference. FMA has enormous fanbase, and fanboys/girls are always on the lookout for new material. However, I do agree with you on the fact that, kekkaishi is vastly underrated.

the animation quality is rather good too, I wonder why is it so underrated.

I have 25 epi's of the Kekkaishi anime, and i think they've made a good job. I wish more people will read this series ;D *a fan of the manga*

Totally agreed. It's too underrated for such a good series :/

one more person agreeing on the topic. and I thought the manga would get vastly more popular as the anime starts. I guess that is bound to happen if and when it finishes. and manga goes ahead with story. but we need big fan base NOW! noone wants it canceled.

advertising campaign was probably built bad if it isn't popular in Japan. and about the rest of the world.. we just suck. >.<

Kekkaishi is good, but it's not comparable to FMA. FMA has a lot more emotional impact that Kekkaishi. I admit, though, I haven't read the FMA manga, but I did watch the anime series. With regards to the Kekkaishi anime series, I agree that it has high production value. It's very pretty to look at and so far is very faithful to the manga.

I'm ambivalent about US licensing happening soon. To be honest I hope they wait until the series ends. I find that English dubbing is usually done very poorly and there are too many commercials on the Cartoon Network. I like hearing the original voice acting. FMA on the Cartoon Network offended my ears so much, that I couldn't not bear to watch it. Also, sometimes anime gets re-editted and rescripted during localization making the shows lose some of the elements of the story and the general feel.

Kekkaishi is underrated, but FMA is way better though. It could be, because Kekkaishi kinda has a slow start. Before the real interesting stuff happen.

its a pretty unique story, the power of kekkai. i like it a lot. im sure people will too if they read this or watch the anime. the animation is cool too. i recommend people to watch the anime. there's 39 episodes sub so far out of 45, i think. you might want to give this a chance.

Kekkaishi's main male lead looks weird, I'm not gay, but there's got to be a limit on how ugly one can get

Yeah, because Naruto looks any better... Or Luffy... Or Ueki from Law of Ueki... And so on and on.

LOL must be a requirement in shonen manga, one of those unbreakable rules of having a not so easy on the eyes male protagonist.
I would really love to see something that breaks the mold a bit, I will be waiting for the day that I see a shonen manga with a female lead..

I agree completely with the fact that Kekkaishi is vastly underrated , kekkaishi beats out naruto, bleach and the other generic shonen titles in my book.

on a side note-I have not yet read the FMA manga but the anime of FMA beats Kekkaishi hands down.

Hmm... I've just watched 4 or 5 episodes of FMA and I tought it was totally boring. The Kekkaishi anime on the other hand I really loved (much more than Naruto, though maybe not as much as Bleach - but the two have a different feel to them, so I don't think they compare well).
Now I'm totally crazy about the manga. I think it's very nicely done, though the plot is moving along very slowly. I love the drawing style and think the protagonist is pretty cute (by the way I'm a girl bigrazz). I like him 100 times more than Naruto. biggrin
