I say that it's -not highly- but extremely overrated >.>...

And I'm pretty sure there's already a topic like this...

What do you mean by 'around here'? Like in the States, the site, or just in general?

I think it's actually pretty good (I read up to about the 11th or 12th volume), but then it began on airing on TV in the US and it all went downhill from there dead ...

Narutards surfaced (they were much more obscure before) and all of a sudden Naruto was being called the best show EVER liek OMigod!!!1111

T.T

I couldn't handle the wearing of headbands at conventions (and calling it cosplaying) or the little kids jumping for joy at ninjas dead (You'd think Naruto was dubbed by 4Kids or something!) The overratedness became too much for me and I began to distance myself *especially from narutards*

When people say they are proud to be a narutard, it's basically an invitation for me to punch them in the face smile

Was I a bit harsh? I apologize ^_^;; (but I don't think I'll be taking anything back without good reason)

(1000th post! Woohoo~)
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Although I'm falling behind cry

lol ur absolutely correct... naruto was good until the haku/ zabuza's arc, then from there it went down hill imo slowly, but currently its speeding up... i think the problem in naruto lies in the characters.... lik all the characters are deep but there is not time to develop them since naruto is all about fighting... so yea those narutads....

naruto is dubbed by 4kids i think. and you better BELIEVE IT!
oh gwad that catch phrase is so bad...

but compared to other series such as ruoruni kenshin, naruto is like ****. bad story bad character development, characters dont really have alot of morals and beliefs, and the whole show contidicts itself...
eg when fighitng haku sasukes protects naruto. wtf is that, sasuke hates naruto, and not only that sasuke would never protect someone before itachi is killed... look at what he did to sakura.

I like Naruto. It isn't as good as it used to be, but it is still pretty good in my opinion. There are better things out there, but this one is easily palatable. It's fun to see the ninja kids grow up. It's fun to learn about all the different jutsus. There are so many characters that are only partially developed that it's easy to pick a favorite. Plus the story is simple enough for a kid to understand and violent enough to keep adults interested.

Just because something becomes popular enough to be on the radar of all the tards doesn't mean it isn't any good. I started watching the anime back in like 2002 I think and it was better than most anything else I had seen at the time. Don't be so hard on it, just cuz the kiddies like it and 4kids butchered it and Shipudden is terrible and the manga is going nowhere and..... ok... maybe it isn't so good anymore....

nevermind. sad sad sad sad

@otakubb- props on the 1000 mark

just wanted to give my opinion on the matter. The naruto anime sucked, with the exception of some of the fights being extended and animated. The manga was great until this whole time-skip business where it was shaky, but is slowly bringing itself back.

all the narutards are saying it's the greatest thing ever. It's maybe be one of my favorites, but it's def not the best. Granted all the 11-year old hype did lame out the series a bit. sad

Really? laugh If you're so dead set on hating Naruto, then what's the point of a stranger trying to convince/explain to you why it's good?

Personally, I don't think Naruto's overrated. It just appeals to a wider range of audience. The show has a lot of fanatics or Narutards, as we so affectionately call 'em. Sort of annoying? YES. But I don't see how it is relevant to how good or bad the series is. Hating something because a lot of people are into it is just as bad as someone liking something because it's trendy.

I love the manga but I think the anime is just another money making tool. Don't like it? Don't watch it. It's healthier that way. smile

(Just my opinion, not meant to criticize, persuade ,or dissuade anyone smile wink grin )

The American Naruto lovers simply do not know of any other anime out there that isn't on CN or have access to manga outside of licensed stuff, so it becomes overly hyped and anticipated. (I'm pretty sure a lot of the American fans only know of Fruits Basket and consider that the bible of all manga...) Since most of the people on MU knows of better, greater manga, Naruto simply doesn't match up to other series.

Personally, I like Naruto... I've read it since the beginning (or almost. Around the Chuunin Exams) by the original Jump scans years back. It's not the greatest thing out there, but it's a good series.

The reason I think people tend to think Naruto is being over hyped or whatever is because it's been around for SOOOO long that it generates big discussions and debates about it, causing outsiders to have a general idea about the series before they start reading it, and once they start, the manga doesn't reach up to their expectations they heard from discussions.

Dude you just read my mind. eyes I too watched it when they started showing it on CN. I thought it was cool when they introduced the new characters and their techniques. It was cool when the tournament came, Shino, Shikamaru, Neji, Rock Lee, and Gaara were introduced. Then the Sasuke arc was one of the best. Shikamaru had great leadership. Then the timeskip came and it got boring. really really boring. Shippuuden just drags a chapter a episode, or so it seems. Then now the manga, wow, just not as appealing anymore. Too many things going on and not enough excitement anymore for some reason.......

@amaranthine
LOL laugh agreed! *online high-5*
The manga is awesome and no one can really persuade me otherwise. It has its share of cliches, yes, but they are used because people love them.
The anime is indeed (and really basically all other anime out there), is another money making tool. It attracts potential manga readers too, so...yeah. >_>

I actually think Naruto is pretty good...I never watched the dubbed-crap (just always stick with the japanese with any anime/manga), and have been watching the anime ever since my friend showed me the Itachi-Sasuke Mangekyu encounter, even though i prefer the manga...the series is very character driven, and yeah, there are alot of cliche moments, but they all fit real well with the storylines...the relationships in the series are really good, and the fights are great (especially in the manga, as they tend to be short and not DBZ length)...for all the naysayers, you just gotta try to stick with it b/c it's popular in Japan for a reason, and forget about all the crap they release in the states, b/c Viz and CN are only in it for the $---as the translation is considerably tamed down...i actually didn't like it at first thinking it was too kiddy, but the drama and speculations are real good and like i said, the fights are pretty badass---just gotta give it a shot, and STICK with it, b/c it definitely paid off for me, as it's in my top 3 current faves---especially with where its headin now...

No clue. I quit watching after the 3rd season a few years back because Sasuke turned into an a** and the story pretty much reset and started to repeat itself (up until then, Naruto was a really good series that I looked forward to because the story was compelling and there were some truly classic moments). Naruto doesn't know where to end so it just drags on ... I know a bunch of folks out there love Naruto. I saw you all at Comic Con. So I won't say too much more for fear of feeling your wrath.

BTW: Get yourselves some Naruto uncut and read the subtitles. I can only imagine how badly the CN has hacked up this anime and I've heard a little of the awful English voice acting.

I haven't read the manga after learning of the numerous volumes and the disappointment of the quality of the anime after the 3rd season. How does the manga compare to anime. (I suppose I should read some of the posts for that answer ... oh well).

This series is really over rated. When I first saw it I was like, "OMG NINJA'S!!!" And now I'm like, "Ugh... Naruto... Don't want to read/watch it right now."

I've lost track of where I was in the manga, and the only think I really look forward to in the anime is the opening and closing songs. And sometimes, I don't even like some of the songs.

When the show was introduced to me I was really happy to watch it and look it up on the computer and find the episodes. And when I heard it was going to be dubbed I got my hopes up, that'd he would have a nice voice, but was I let down I mean seriously. I looked at the tv in astonishment. No offense but I don't think the lady who is voice acting Naruto is doing that great of a job. The voice is... too... whiny girlish sounding for me. It's as if he's secretly a girl underneath those baggy clothes he wears.

It's sad that I prefer to watch Spongebob than Naruto. Even in the Japanese version. I'll rarely watch the episodes. I've read them in the manga already and just watching it drag out... it makes me boooored. I'm all for the fighting but when its dragged out to make it longer to fill time it just discourages me from watching the rest of the show. I'm not saying the manga/anime is bad... It's just... boring after a while. I'd rather be reading a really shoujoish manga and I'm not usually into shoujo, so that's kind of sad.

I just think that the beginning of the anime was way to rushed. It rushed the characters, only to have them develop in the filler arc and not in the manga, the fight scene's were too drawn out, took about two or three episodes for one battle to be finished.

I'm just not into the series anymore. The last time I checked for a new chapter would have to be earlier this year around March. Maybe even February.

So this series to me is way too overrated.
