I read it. All it amounted to was "please don't take away our free manga, give us the rights to license it and everything will be okay. for free, of course."

I lol'd.

These types of petitions NEVER work. This petition is pretty much like asking to legalize downloading of music and such.

read it and it is as mewarmo said. even if this does get the attention of the authority, it lacks the legal and moral grounds for the court to pass. Petitions like this are always ignored. it just don't work.

It says nothing of the sort.

For the sake of discussion, let's assume this petition doesn't get ignored (and it will).

It doesn't present any coherent or practical plan to convince publishers that free online readers are financially viable.

It claims that most fans using the online readers buy the manga volumes once they like it. What a load of bull.

It asserts that depending on amateur fan work would somehow increase sales and the release rate. There is absolutely nothing to suggest this is true. As if these publishers don't already have the resources to do this themselves, and with generally better quality anyway. Oh, and did I mention that scanlations are illegal under copyright law?

It asks companies to give away the publishing rights to series for free. Basically, to give away manga for free. I don't even need to explain why this will never, ever happen.

Finally, the entire petition is self-contradictory. It asks publishers to give the license to online readers so that they can somehow mysteriously make money off of these free readers. It asks publishers to take advantage of scanlators so that they can get their publication rate up to speed and make online readers unnecessary. So what is the point of the online reader site again?

There is no free lunch, yada yada yada, grow up kids.

First, we're requesting that publishing companies like Shonen Jump and Yen Press give licensing rights to online manga sites and scanlators

need no more xD
How can someone write that and hope the petition will do anything....

So basically, the petition is for : give us raw for free and the right to distribute them for free after translation/edit.
The main problem in this petition : the author don't see raw like a work from someone and is the property of a publisher and anyone know that a publisher don't work for nothing bigrazz

Please stop creating these panicky topics, they make me worry biggrin
And I agree that a petition won't change anything.
