Cult of Chucky - I really liked it, it felt like a return to form and I love the new angle they took.

Insidious: Chapter 2 - It was OK, not as good as the first but still fun.

Insidious: Chapter 3 - It was just average, not good but not bad either...just meh.

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight (2018)

Gotta say...some killer box-art there. Love the box art.

I certainly didn´t expect to see the film about banging the Creature from the Black Lagoon to win the Oscar but here we are. My money was on either Ladybird or Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. It´s obviously an alright film but the whole Oscar winning slate was middle of the road this year. Speaking of random awards and listicles. I put together a list of all the 9-10/10 films i gave on Imdb and ended up with 229 titled since 1940.
Entry XY will surprise you and all of that: (Near) Perfect Films: 1940-2017

On to my superhero corner. African-American Panther is a good film but i have to say the same as i did with Iron-man Homecoming. Not pandering to the lowest comment denominator in every 3rd scene would have lead to a truly astonishing film. Especially if i consider how little you see of Wakanda and it´s civilian population. Then again, you don´t make a billion while trying to make something truly smart at the same time. The less preach Blade 1 that just accepted that a black dude can be a superhero with no questions asked ranks higher on my "progressiveness meter". The core villain was amazing for once though. Despite almost no screen-time in the first half and a bewilderingly bland and mess final battle. Panther´s sister was awesome too and she sucks in his books. The soundtrack was also way too good for a MCU film. Weird, eh?

Gotham S04 had a great comeback. 5 seasons and a movie please. The way to well made Black Lightning is starting to grow stale and it´s in your face "blackness" is about to turn into a farce. I will likely quit after this season and will again have 0 CW shows on my plate.
Jessica Jones S02 though... ? . I struggled for the fist time to get though a Netflix MCU show it and i mostly loved S01. Cage, Iron-fist and Defender all had issues but this is next level broken! Next season will have to pick up quickly. Especially if i consider how comically psychotic everyone became in S02, how little the plot made sense, low little happened and how cheap half the scenes looked. The handful of Killgrave moment were by and large the only time my interest perked up. So feel free to avoid this filler season and read her barely related comics instead. I would frankly worry about the whole line if Punisher S01 wasn´t so good. It and Daredevil are the best life action comic shows to ever exist. Legion and then Gotham are the runner-ups.

Forgot: Runaways S01 is alright but it barely bothered to adapt the comics and ran in circles half the time. I will give S02 exactly 1 ep. to improve or I am out. Their new comic is great though but sadly tanked in sales.

Saw Fullmetal Alchemist and it was quite good. Actually I liked it a lot and gonna re-watch again biggrin

Sure, it wasn't perfect but it did stick pretty close to manga/anime facts thou obviously condensing all the material would've been impossible and some stuff was from there & here, but for the beginning of the FMA story the movie was well done.
In fact, I'm hoping they'd make a sequel with the rest of the story.

To me this is one of those rare live action adaptions which are worth watching, especially for shonen, and it pays the original material respect.

Wasn't better ( 99% of the time they aren't anyway), wasn't equal (70% of the time they aren't anyway) but it was good (which in itself is a rare 30%) laugh

Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay (2018)

The squad felt kinda 'level down' for me here. The squad and animation of it was way sexier in Batman: Assault on Arkham (Video 2014) to me than here.
But, that's merely because I really liked the previous one, which in storyline is a sequel to it. When I'm not comparing, it's a very pleasant movie to watch. Watch it when you got the time.

The plot follows, Amanda Waller forming a special squad called Task Force X, full of incarcerated villains, to retrieve a powerful mystical object, that they will risk their lives to steal.

A Wrinkle In Time (2018)

Thoughts: as bad as the first one. Lines cringy. Too fast paced. Could be biased though, b/c I read the book. (But, I read back in middle school so... )

Pacific Uprising.
6/10, watchable but the cast was too young and there weren't any sacrifices made to save the world
I guess that millennials for ya

the original was a masterpiece

Batman Ninja (2018)

This is when Batman goes Anime, pure uniqueness comes out of it. You get Feudal Japan, You get Ninja (samurai?), You get Batman, Joker and rest of the gang...how much more awesomer could it get?!
It's just wow, epic, pure awesomeness, BADASS.

" In this groundbreaking anime adaptation of the legendary Batman franchise, Gotham City is swapped out for feudal Japan, where Batman fights his infamous foes as an armored ninja. With Catwoman, Two-Face and the Joker all showing up to battle the Bat, will Bruce Wayne be able to save the day? "

Avengers 33⅓ was pretty solid, certainly better than the nonsensical Civil War, but you could cut half the film´s scenes. Thanos is further as unengaged as i feared (great CG though) and his army is utter bullshit. Not that i cared about them in the comics but these villains are some of the worst cannon fodder the MCU gave us. To think how interesting the film could have been if Silver Surfer, Death and other space characters were the focus of the film and not a teenage Spider-man, or Black Widow, or... The cameo villain should have stuck around too. The humor is lastly about as bad as Thor 3´s but the spectacle is expensive enough to keep me mostly engaged for the run-time. These MCU films really aren´t for comic fans anymore. Oh well.

The delightfully source accurate Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay and the beyond toyetic madness of Batman Ninja had me covered though. These had a 1/100 of Infinity War´s budget but i also want to watch them again immediately and not out of obligation. Legion S02 is also really good.

Lastly watch Game Night, Love, Simon and maybe my favorite Hollywood film of the year Ready Player One if you don´t care about comic films. The RPO book has a more heart but Spielberg really went all out and nailed the video/VR scene to a surprising degree. The run-time just flew by.

Forgot: Annihilation is the best film of the year so far. It sucks that the studio was correct about the film being "too intellectual and complicated" (a direct quote) for the average viewer, so i get why the film tanked and forwent a wide cinematic release. The end result is a thing of abstract beauty though.

Superhero corner is a go: Ant-man 2 was good, as the character dynamics just work, and I liked how small the scope was. More scenes with the original Wasp would have been great though. Deadpool 2 was a bit better than the first and somehow overcame some of the craziest production problems in recent years. The Death of Superman (it leaked) had somewhat bewildering writing but the take on Doomsday and his cross-country murder spree were superb. There were a few more animation slips than usual though. Hm.

Cloak and Dagger started great and got good again this week but the quality sure dipped for a few eps. Gotham fished its penultimate season on a very high note. Luke Cage had a crazy jump in quality in S02, after a dire dip in the 2nd half of S01, and was must-watch TV throughout. It´s basically The Wire with some vigilante content. Who knew that non-characters as Shades and fucking Bushmaster had the potential to surpass every single MCU film character? S03 is even set up to be a Breaking Bad analog. Meaning that a Heroes for Hire merger with Iron Fist (he gets a guest role) is likely off the table.

Solo equally overcame crazy production problems and is one of the best sci-fi/adventure films in years. Too bad no one showed up to see it... Hereditary isn´t the historic horror masterpiece critics made it out to be but hardly the trash-fire many audiences declared it.
I could have done without the last minute or two though, there I´ll agree with the mob.
Arrested Development lastly returned to it´s classic from very quickly into S05 part 1.

Nothing against the experimental and more dramatic S04 but the best comedy show of all time is officially back. George & Maeby story was so funny it hurt. And who can forget GOB´s newfound struggle with being gay... or whatever is going on with him.

Edit: Forgot about Incredibles 2. It´s more of a 2nd part than a (standalone) sequel and about as good as a sequel to a true classic can be. But did we really need a 14-year break?

Just finished watching Crazy Rich Asians. Pleasantly surprised that it was better than I thought it'd be.

I also just watched CRA. Didn't really like it at all, honestly. Apparently straight romcoms are just not for me, even if they're Chinese. (Still wishing for that Saving Face sequel...)

On a happier note, I also watched Sorry to Bother You two weeks ago, and I'm still thinking about it. I'm not entirely sure if I like it as a piece of entertainment, but it sure as heck makes me think. I hope Boots Riley makes a ton more films after this because he's definitely a director to watch out for.

I recently got Hulu too and ended up watching a bunch of docs on it. (Lowkey mad that Hulu no longer has O.J. Simpson: Made in America, though. That doc was one of the reasons why I bothered to get Hulu in the first place.) Anyway, Whose Streets? was one I've been wanting to watch for a while, and I loved it. Really a project of and for the people of Ferguson. Check It in contrast was a bit of a disappointment. I really was not a fan of how the filmmaker framed the doc, and it was clear that she didn't really relate to her subjects. The doc could've been really powerful, but instead it was just... all right. Monkey Business: The Adventures of Curious George's Creators is quite possibly one of the best documentaries I've seen in terms of creativity and general craft. Really fun and unique. Liked it more than I thought possible. Finally, I watched Tiny Shoulders: Rethinking Barbie hoping for an interesting analysis of Barbie's triumphs and failures. Instead, I got basically an hour and thirty minutes of Mattel PR. Probably the biggest waste of time for me of all these docs, honestly.

Venom (2018)

User Posted Image

Journalist Eddie Brock is trying to take down Carlton Drake, the notorious and brilliant founder of the Life Foundation. While investigating one of Drake's experiments, Eddie's body merges with the alien Venom -- leaving him with superhuman strength and power. Twisted, dark and fueled by rage, Venom tries to control the new and dangerous abilities that Eddie finds so intoxicating.

My Rating - 7.5/10

I enjoyed the movie thoroughly from the start to end, didn't get bored during watching it at all. But, just like most of the critics claiming, it does lack a lot compared to all the superhero movies that came out these past few years. It might have arisen some red flags for me, but Tom Hardy's acting here, while it's nothing revolutionary, saves the day.
Watch it whenever you got time and see if you got a different opinion from me.

P.S. We got to see a 'Pretty Nice Guy'(?) Venom here. May he grows and becomes a descent badass with Eddie(Tom), on upcoming movies (hopefully there will be some). ?
