For the OP, I'd rec one of my fave authors: Miyamoto Kano but personally I'm not into any of the above.
My fave yaoi is the types that's about two guys (ultra fem characters make me cringe) who are already in a relationship (or getting into one) and the hassles involved. Don't really care about the genre, though comedy is a plus.

i don't really care what kind of theme there is as long as the art, plot and characters are appealing. hell, as long as i like the characters the story may be kinda cliché too.

I'm sad to say this, but this is actually what I enjoy reading too.
But I don't really like submissive yaoi characters because of their facial expressions. (Wow, what a paradox.)

I pick the last option.
One thing I like about Yaoi is the male character art design is so good compare to the mainstreams.
On story, I would like to see no sex or anything smutty thing involve just friendship between men.
Im not into lovey-dovey scenes, just tight hug and/or a smile to each other is enough for me.
