Personally I don't wear them, but I don't mind if other girls do. It's their choice.

If they wanna be considered as shameless sluts, then I don't really see a problem with them.

Since when did wearing a pair of leggings make a girl a 'shameless slut'?

As pants? Oh, I dunno, ever since human beings began to feel the emotion called shame?
Or are you offended by my usage of the word slut?
If so, allow me to rephrase myself - "If they wanna be considered as shameless meat bags".

does your pretty stereotyping include opaque leggings and jeggings too ? biggrin

Quote from reixshinji
So you would be fine with men wearing tights? If they are non-transparent tights we could still see the shape of some things.

we're not talking about men here

Quote from mogiks
Jeggings are kind of designed to be worn by themselves as a substitute for jeans so I guess that's acceptable, but tights and leggings are not. They're skin-tight and the fabric is pretty thin.

hmm.i have both jeggings and leggings...the fabric is similar they're both thick
i think the OP was referring to skin-tight clothes in general
@pikapu should make it clear...wether her question is about transparent tights(i would never wear those, just to make things clear) or skin-tight pants(leggings, jeggings, skinny jeans etc)

It's fashion, could be worse. The city I live in has taught me that very large, sweaty men lounging on the roadside in a fluttering pink skirt (and NOTHING else) can cause traffic accidents (saw the guy, then the cars) eek.

if it fits and looks great then theres no problem. some fat chicks wearing tight shirts freaks me more than seeing some skinny chicks half transparent ass ,well thats my opinion though i don't hate fat ppl im just afraid of fat in general ,it looks alive and ready to attack.. i think its cuz of some fatty that beat me up when i was little. mad

Yes.
You can call them whatever you want, its still essentially the same thing.
I'm quite positive that I'm not the first person to refer to them as slutty pants.

I'd also like to emphasize the fact that I have no problem with them - as long as the person wearing them are pleasing to the eyes (though that doesn't make it any less shameless).

Call me shallow or whatever, but when my retinas get raped by some monstrous sight, I'd like the said monstrous sight to be gone.

I think it's quite clear that she's reffering to these.

And skinny jeans and leggings are totally different, you're probably wearing them too, you should know that so I don't see why you're putting them together.

It's quite obvious that she doesn't find skinny jeans revolting. They're designed to be worn as tight pants.

"...as pants" => that you're not wearing pairing up the tights/leggings with skirts/dresses/long shirts/etc. so no, I don't see how they work as pants.

When I hear "pants" it means they can be worn with a shirt/top that doesn't fall much below the waistline. And if there's NOTHING from a person's waistline to feet except tights/leggings... it's sort of indecent (and a fashion crime?).

It depends on the type of tights/leggings/whatever you want to call them. There's the kind that you can't see through and the kind you can. The non see through kind have been around for a very long time, in fact they're most commonly used as pants for young children. I find this kind ok. The see through kind is not cool. It's like wearing stockings without anything on top... just stroll in your underwear why don't you!

categorizing a girl as a "slut" because she wears leggings/tights/jeggings is just ridiculous
a slut is a girl who would gladly open her legs to any man in sight,im pretty sure neither i nor everyone who voted for "yes" is anything like that

i know, but alot of people here consider tights and leggings/jeggings as 2 different things
tights being transparent and the latter thicker and opaque

Calling women 'meat bags' is so much less offensive.

Why should a woman have to feel shame for wearing leggings in the first place? Just because you don't like it?

Swimsuits and underwear look the same. Do you use your swimsuit as underwear when you go to school?
They both cover the same area after all.
leggings reveal much more than jeans, those aren't the same things. You can't put them together just because they're both tight.

That's because they aren't the same. That doesn't make any of them pants and that's the point.

Hmmm...did I misuse the word? Let's see...

Quote from Wikipedia
Slut or slattern is a pejorative term applied to an individual who is considered to have loose sexual morals or who is sexually promiscuous.

Quote from Oxford English Dictionary (unabridged), Second Edition
The accepted denotative meaning is a sexually promiscuous woman[4] or "a woman of a low or loose character; a bold or impudent girl; a hussy, jade."

Quote from thefreedictionary
slut (slt)
n.
A person, especially a woman, considered sexually promiscuous.

Quote from GW Hatchet
The adjective "slutty" carries a similar connotation but can be applied both to people and to clothing and accessories

If you dress like one, don't be surprised if you are called one.

but i get your point
but i dont see how leggings are much more revealing than skinny jeans

In my opinion, leggings as pants are really gross. The girls who wear them always have really bad camel toes. Its really disgusting. THEY ARE NOT MEANT TO BE WORN THAT WAY PEOPLE. If you really must, make sure your crotch is clear. But its still gross even if they don't get a camel toe - most of the time they're opaque and I get a full view of the g-string (Why is it that fat people always wear g-strings?) and all the goods I don't wanna see.

Plus, I don't think I've ever seen a really hot girl wear the style this way. Its mostly middle-aged overweight people. I don't wanna see a hot, in-shape girl with a camel toe, but fat middle aged people are just gross when they get them.

Jeggings are ok - but again, watch out for the camel toes.

laugh Oh god, the camel toes...

I think the difference between how revealing skinny jeans and leggings are is small but pretty significant. I wear skinny jeans a lot but I'd never wear leggings as pants. Skinny jeans are never as elastic as leggings so they're never as tight (although yes, the very skinny skinny jeans often have a bit of give). The fabric is thicker as well depending on what sort of skinny jeans you're going for, and since they have pockets and zippers and things, they are a bit stiffer and more substantial (hence why leggings are more comfortable) and tend to obscure stuff like panty lines. Sure they cover up pretty much the same amount of flesh as leggings, but since leggings 100% hug your skin you can see pretty much every detail, down to the line of the underwear, every crease of fat, and, even more unfortunately, the camel toe. Which nobody wants to see. They are barely hiding anything. And that's why it could get you called a slut, because it leaves pretty much nothing to the imagination, you are gonna get looked at, and if you are wearing that kind of thing, it's like you're inviting that kind of attention.
