The official website and Twitter account of the Toaru Majutsu no Index (A Certain Magical Index) anime franchise confirmed on Sunday that a theatrical film adaptation has been green-lit. The announcement was made at a stage event during the Dengeki Bunko Autumn Festival 2011 on Sunday, and more details will be provided in ASCII Media Works' Dengeki Bunko Magazine on October 11.

The third volume of Shinyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index, Kazuma Kamachi's sequel to the original Toaru Majutsu no Index light novel series, will ship on December 10.

The first Toaru Majutsu no Index light novel series inspired two television anime series, as well as A Certain Scientific Railgun manga that inspired its own anime franchise.
