Hey! I am a beginner to watching anime and have only really seen ones like Samurai X and Deathnote. However I would really like to hook on to a new one (currently watching episodes of Trigun & Wolf's Rain) and am looking for something with lots of humor, plot, and some mature themes.
I'd really like to find something satisfying with possible elements of adventure, action, and maybe a little romance. Anything to get my mind off of homework etc. in between coding sessions (yeah I have endless work even tonight ugh.)
Things I can dislike are: harems/ecchi stuff unless the guy is good looking from a girl's perspective, anything super slow unless it is particularly profound, too much dark vampire/etc. stuff without any humor, or mecha. (If it is a male gratifying senseless violence thing, I probably won't watch it.)
pls help!

Gurren Lagann (does have mecha, not your traditional mecha show though)
Outlaw Star
Cowboy Bebop
Fullmetal Panic (similar to GL in that it does have mecha)

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood (follows the manga to the end).
Full Metal Alchemist (as mentioned above by ~StarDrops~) is great in its own right... it's just that the ending is an original one since the manga wasn't completed at the time.
Higashi no Eden? I thought it was pretty spiffy story... ignore the 3 movies following it...
