xxxHolic's got a business arrangement, and Watanuki slowly gets stronger, out grows his wimpiness, and he's never happy about the arrangement even though he agrees.
Also, may be a bit off, but in The Wallflower the boys are dependent on Sunako's aunt, and while not submissive to the female lead, it is their job to change her, so they are dependent on her, and hate that.
