I've noticed that it's not uncommon for a male character to have hair in their eyes, even when it would be wise not to. I.E., a sports manga. I've done my fair share of sports and I can tell ya, being able to see is much more valuable than looking cool.

So what do you think? An oversight in common sense, or does the mangaka simply not care? In fact, what do you think is the reason behind physics-defying hair typically found in shounen manga?

Haha so true biggrin
I think it's just the fact that the chararter looks cooler... eyes
And you can see the movemen't of his hair and that gives the illusion that he's doing something, and doing it fast and powerfully, I guess. confused

I would agree with pretty much this, appearance of a character in a manga would be important, I certainly like unique hair styles on main characters.

The answer is quite easy, drawing realistic looking hair as it get moved by the wind is a pain in the ass.
