I can't help but think that there's probably a ton of fans with potential to translate who don't do scanlations simply because they read only raws anyway. -_-;

I don't blame them. Scanlation is a thankless, time-consuming and unrewarding task. Quite frankly, I'm not sure why I keep doing it.

why are you reporting the closing of a group each few days?

you make it look like the manga community is dying..but quite the opposit eis the case. everyday more groups are established and everyday more manga get scanlated.

let the dead groups stay dead and don't cause such a grim atmosphere where none should be.

It's because you love us, seƱor by request.

or, instead of establishing new groups, you could, ya know, help out the older, more established ones who keep requesting help so that they can keep bringing you the releases you all loved for ages. just sayin'.

I also find it funny but really, this site is about manga updates, but not manga news.
(Don't try and say that they're the same thing because if they are, then why would 2 different words have the same meaning? They're similar, but have slight differences.)

Anyway, thanks for telling us about those 2 news sites so that if we ever wanted to find news, we now know where to go.

It isn't thankless. I and many others thank scanlators whenever we see them. Its just that the thank yous get drowned out by trolls and people asking/begging/demanding the next chapter with a good chunk of them being the same people who thanked you in the same sentence. I wonder if there is a disease named for that type of behavior.

Sure, we love the fans that thank us and whatnot, but it doesn't always makeup for it. The trolls and leachers are far more then the loyal fan. And besides once the "reader" sites popped up most of them abandoned us for an easier read. At this point, I don't even do it for the fans. Just for my own amusement.

But one topic, it's sad to see so many groups go down. What happened to the days when it just a bunch of nerds hanging out in IRCs, translating manga for fun. It's gotten so serious and it feels like a popularity contest at times. Sad times we are entering.

Only problem with that, is that older groups have standards that most of the new people are either unwilling to adhere too, or learn. So, many new people find it easier to search out others around their skill level and create new groups. I say, that if more older groups were more willing to train people who have even mediocre talent in what they're applying for(except translations.... you're either good.... or you better have found a good proofreader who can understand *exactly* what you're trying to say), that they'd be better off.

The same could be said for me. If I wanted to get back into proofreading I would. At my peak I was proofing 2 volumes of manga a day, between 3-4 groups. But, my interest in manga has dwindled down to barely reading anything at all these days. I keep up with the WSJ releases and that's about it. My 800 folder and 150gig manga collection on my HDD is being wasted on me right now. xD

Hey, older scan groups deserve respect!

And yes, everyday more groups are established and most new groups hardly know the meaning of High Quality. In fact, it seems like most new groups do it for popularity rather than for scanlation itself..

errr...I really dunno what you come here you do. The rest of us are getting the manga updates we want. Maybe you wanted them to call themself "Manga Releases" ? Then why not be totally literal and call them: "Illegal manga scanlation releases information database + manga title information"?

You would know a little about scanlations, wouldn't you dosetsu? wink

The news on this site relates more to scanlation, something which ANN is very wary of.
