my #1 gotta be "Gutts" from berserk, hes badass looking with epic scars, especially with that fake arm and shit... he takes on monsters 10 times his respective size with wyvern wings shooting whatever that comes outta its mouth, belly, tail, nipples, cock, or whatever that is in an awkward manner ; while he uses his only three weapons mainly consisting of his unweildable dragon sword, his constant crossbow, and that rocket of his,, though he does get other weapons and armors on the progress, but im saying generally...

This is a hard choice. If I had to go the "Yippee kay yay motherfker" route I'd probably say... Lucy from Elfen Lied. Altho she isnt Bruce Willis, she's prty damn hardcore. I'd love to have vectors that can cut people to itty bitty pieces.
If i had to go "Intense figure" prob Light from Death Note

Onizuka of GTO was the first manga character I thought of when I saw the topic.

Same here. I went with the second option since when I think of epic characters, they don't fall in the other categories as much. Aside from Onizuka, other examples would be Miyamoto Muashi from Vagabond, Endou Kenji from 20th Century Boys, and Tanaka Yukio from Beck: MCS.

Epic characters to me include:
Jiraiya from Naruto
Flute from The Violinist of Hameln
Ippo from Hajime no Ippo
Ichigo from Bleach
and I know it's not a manga, but she's damn epic to me...
Yoko Nakajima from Twelve Kingdoms
I think part of being "epic" is growing throughout a series. Watching them develop as people is important.

I don't think people can be epic as such, moreso their surroundings and perhaps the things they do and places they travel...

I'm an English major, the fact that you have incorrectly used the phrase "epic character" fills me with UNENDING RAGE.
*kicks a baby into the sun*
RAWR THAT IS NOT WHAT DEFINES AN EPIC CHARACTER YOU ALL FAIL.
*turns into the literary hulk*

Hmm when I think of epic for manga maybe. Frankly though I've always loved the cliché "I destroy a small army and raise hell . . then eat a light "brunch"" attitude, but unfortunately Vash The Stampede was much to peaceful. If you want epic from outside anime/manga how about Paul (basically one of the main characters) from the Chronicles of Dune. Here is a man who doesn't need eyes to see . . what now *****?

lucy is awesome too, she has some messed up powers, but yet she also can think fast, especially with the fight with bando when she grabbed his gun
