We have to take and pass a theory test first which consists of 50 multiple choice questions based on the highway code and you need 41 correct to pass. We also have a Hazard perception video test where you watch a clip and identify the potential hazards, that doesn't need as high a mark to pass though. After passing your theory you have three years to take your practical test.

That's how it is in Belgium. laugh

I've been driving for about 6 years now. I haven't done anything stupid until now, at least nothing which is worth mentioning.
Most of the about 100.000km distance I covered, I drove on autobahns without speed restriction (it was my daily journey to work). So I tortured my cars quite a bit :-)

I didn't mind the tests though; it's to make sure no dipshits get on the road. However paying for it all dead Stupid fancy driving instructor teach me faster! You're gettin' paid by the hour b*tch !! bigrazz
I got a freelance driving instructor (from a friend); now that guy was waaaay better than that driving-school-bound instructor.

Stupid things (mind that I'm a pretty careful driver; careful, but not too careful)

* Twice driving drunk. First time just a bit intoxicated, not enough to fail at driving but if the cops would've stopped me I'd probably fail the promille test though.
Second time I was glad my friend was right next to me biggrin

* each friday I go somewhere and try to park on the parking; but each time it's full and I have to drive around the block again. It's just pretty dumb when you think about it....

Stupid things by others:

* Seeing a girl trying to turn her car in the street, you know a full 180°. She needed 7 turns bigrazz

* Driving next to a friend of mine in the southern part of belgium ("De Ardennen" wink .
At one particular part of the ride the street was quite wide and slowly went down & uphill with long wide turns. We were all a bit drunk but my friend (behind the wheel) had sacrificed himself to be our sober driver. And then... he starts making Gran Tourismo 3 sounds eek Vroem, vroem! Eeeaaaaoowwwn!

I will be taking my motorcycle driver's license next year, so after that I will drive more in the city, and even more off-road cool

After a few drinks I think I can do anything. Those poor squirrels. So no. I can't drive (safely).

I've had my learner's permit since 16 and I've only driven for like...1 hour TOPS. Can't really be bothered learning atm.
Other than that...I can drive with a keyboard o_o

You sure that permit even counts anymore? I heard you must take the test again after a certain amount of time.

And I have driven since I was fourteen. Older friends FTW.

It's only been 3 years. Geez, how old do you guys think I am?! o.O

Where I live it's only, I think, like 2 years with a learners permit.

Mine lasts for 8 years I think

Our permit is endless I think. My sister got hers at 17 and she's 21 now and still not even sorted lessons let alone her test. It's only the theory which expires. You have 2 years from passing the theory to pass your practical and you can't book the practical test without passing your theory first.

I've been driving for 10 long years. Had 3 wrecks... one of which resulted in a totaled classic corvette and two of which resulted in a new bumper for a classic corvette. I don't drive classics anymore, that's for sure. (although the totaled one was the other guy's fault, so no real harm done... funny thing, really, sophomore driving out of the parking lot during curfew hours (lunch time), turned left right into me right in front of the campus cop... got a curfew ticket, reckless driving ticket, and snapped his truck's front axel so he needed a tow, but I could drive my poor car home. Body damage totaled it, though... my mechanic bought it, fixed it up real nice, too)

Back in my early days I did lots of stupid things... "Hey! Let's see how fast it can go!" or "Hey! Let's see how fast it can go around this turn!". But ultimately it was just plain old not paying attention to the road that caused all my fender benders. I maintain that the last one I had was actually an act of God... I was going up a hill and the sun was just INSTANTLY COMPLETELY BLINDING ME and then two seconds later I was at the top of the hill and about 5 feet away from a girl waiting to turn left. Needless to say, I hit her. She tried to get extra money off the insurance company, but low speed collisions rarely end in whiplash, so that didn't fly.

Anyway, I live in Austin, TX and our traffic is horrid (I've lived in California, spent lots of time in NY... I think the only place that's remotely close is Houston, but at least they move quickly when they can)... I'd happily give up my car for wings or super speed or any number of other locomotive-type super powers.

Haha, I am completely lame. I am 18, and I can't drive. I don't even have my permit. haha I just get rides from my friends and family. I'll probably not get a license for a very long time...too troublesome...

I'm seventeen and a few member of my family want me to learn to drive. I've read my book twice, but I haven't taken the actual test. I'll get around to it eventually.

I've been driving for 8 years now. I'm a pretty good driver, But i have done some pretty stupid stuff. When I first got my car, i was driving home in the rain and tried to swerve around a dog that ran onto the road. Unfotunately, the car had bad tires. I ended up spinning the car four times around a curve and almost ended up hitting the barrier separating the service road from the QEW (main highway in Canada).

I started driving at 13, my grandfather taught me.
Stupid things: I was pulled over for going 45 in a 35 mph zone-no ticket but the cop asked me to recite the alphabet backwards. It was easy but still sucked, I was already late that's why I was speeding.
I got a ticket for going 85 in a 55mph zone, I wanted to pass a Mac truck. It was in the way!
All 3 of my cars have been hit, two were hit while parked, the third I was driving, but I wasn't at fault.
I think that's it, but that's enough.
Oh yeah, I don't speed anymore and I junked my car, so no more worries!
