I don't really understand your story, but the saddest endings are when someone close to the protagonist, or the main character himself, dies, like if they give up their own lives for the sake of others or speak their last words, not ones with some teen drama and flings.

I think the saddest thing is when "his sister is on a vegetable like state after going trough an overdose because she wanted to escape from the reallity in which his step father raped her"

A Josei or a Seinen might end like that. a realistic tragedy, that's what's sad for me.

Oh, I see now. lol, no need to get your panties in a bunch; I said I didn't fully understand your story. I have actually heard of Absolute Boyfriend, but I didn't think it would be like that. Wasn't it shoujo? 'Chu' should also try SaiKano; it is also sad, but on a larger scale, and the girl is the one who is an android (or a 'weapon').

btw, be careful about double-posting; it can get 'chu' in trouble.

Try not to double post.
And yes Absolute Boyfriend is a shoujo.
The saddest ending in manga would have to be Deep Love - Ayu no Monogatari, though I guess it was more bittersweet it was still sad.
Also the anime: I Still Don't Remember the Name of the Flower I Saw That Day was the saddest thing I've ever watched. The ending was pretty sad too.

I hate tragedies.
I think the saddest endings are to ones where only one person of a couple (if it's a romance) dies. Though I think the sadder ones are the stories where it's not an incurable illness or whatever, it's a totally "random" (ie. not health related or one you could predict) death. Like Kimi ni Shika Kikoenai which I found really sad. Also, the "doomed love" storyline, while sad, is not as tragic I don't think.
Oh, another would be the ending of The Amber Spyglass. That made me cry. But overall I avoid tragedies so I'm not really well versed in the many different forms of sad endings...

Oooookaaaayyyy, this is where I stop reading Absolute Boyfriend I guess...
I hate all things tragic, so it's hard for me to pick just one. While I really can't stand romances that end with someone dying, I'd have to say that when a shounen manga ends with one of the main characters dying it makes me even sadder. I.e. if Luffy dies I'll probably wallow in misery for a few weeks; but if the guy in a shoujo dies I'll get really mad for maybe three days. Tragedy shoujo are just too pointless to get super sad for. I still don't like reading them though.
The saddest ending for me would have to be DBGT. Taking a long running, uplifting series and permanently killing a few main characters just doesn't work. Yu-Gi-Oh made me pretty mad at the time too. The yaoi "Hybrid Child" was the #1 saddest ending for a romance I've subjected myself to yet, but I'll bet Clannad and Angel Beats could top it.

i LOVE sad endings, when they're done well and not just a mangaka's desperate attempt at ending the series...if a series is tagged as tragedy i would immediately consider reading it, provided it has a good plot.
there should be a little build up prior to the ending, abruptly ending the series tragically would blow things out of proportion...there should also be reasons for the ending
i guess i like tragedies because they amplify the realism in a manga, and i find it very hard to forget a series with a sad ending because sad endings(again, if done well) are powerful

You wanna see something sad? If you watch this and you don't feel anything then you have no soul. Oh and in my opinion death isn't the saddest ending there could be. I feel the saddest endings are those that consist of things that are a result of human nature. Not the soap opera ends where their lover dies in their arms on some beach or being separated knowing they won't see each other, but being close, healthy, and still unable to do anything - that's pretty sad. If the video didn't spark anything, here's a true story.

... You need to use spoiler tags. \: I've already read the series so I knew what you were talking about, but still, learn to use this site.

And... "a lot" is two words.

Saddest ending for me... most definitely AnoHana. Gurren-Lagann is second, and then there's Mawaru Penguindrum.

Pika.

Agree and agree.

Tragedy is like some kind of drug, once you took it, you just had to read until the end. I avoid reading tragedy but in the end I just read them all and end up feeling depressed every time, even when thinking about the stories afterward.

A great ending is not necessarily a tragic one, but it usually is, since the entire plot goes deep into one's mind and stay there lasting forever.
