If you really want one of them, go with FF13. Personally, I enjoyed it, but I can see where the criticism comes from; it's not an amazing game.
As a side note, if you have a Gamecube, get Tales of Symphonia; if you have a PS3, wait for Tales of Xillia NA port ~March 2013.

Please don't spread rumours that you haven't done the slightest bit of digging into. There was about a 48 hour period where some site posted bullshit material to try and force a status update from the developers on the Versus project, by claiming that the game had gone under.

They got what they wanted. A status update. According to producers, the game has not and will not go under. The idea is "ludicrous."

This was weeks ago that they released an official response. Immediately after the rumours began. The fact that people are still trying to spread them is absolutely baffling.

Oh, I'm sorry every bloody gaming news site posted this info. Go rant at them not me. And it doesn't change the fact that this game has been "in production" for six years. I've worked and got friends in indie video games. We all know what that means. Problems in production. Even if this game does get released, which I seriously doubt, it's going to be terrible. It would be far better if they just went ahead and canned it. =3=

As a diehard fan of Final Fantasy i would have to say that Squaresoft has lost it ever since they merged with Enix. FF-X was the last great Final Fantasy that stood out for its name. If u want good storyline then go with FFVII or FFX which imo r the best FF.

You can get FFVII from the playstation store if u dont mind the old graphics i dont know if xbox store has it though. If u have a ps3 and the one with backward compatibility then get FFX...its graphic is great for a ps2 game and its story will blow FFXIII and FFXIV away.

If it's between those two then i would go for FFXIII...its story is average at best but the gameplay is very linear...they fixed this in FFXIII-2 but storywise, it went into another dimension.
As for FFXIV, i regretted that i bought the collector edition, storyline? what storyline?...gameplay? broken interface and lame...for a monthly paying game it was not worth it so i unsubscribed right away. Sorry for the whine but i just had to put it out there.

NOW if u can wait i rather wait for FFvsXIII or FFX remake which was announced awhile ago.

BUT if u cant wait then i rather go with the Tales games: Tales of Graces f if u have ps3 or Tales of Vesperia if xbox...imo right now they r way better then FF in the RPG department.

Then people like you go and say, "It was cancelled DERRR."

And no, there were no problems with the game. Sony funneled all their cash away from Versus and into XIII and XIII-2 so they could speed up those releases. Then, about a year and a half to two years ago they announced that they'd relocated assets back to the production of Versus.

My criticism is focused at you, rather than the gaming sites, because they were careful not to state it as a certainty. Similarly, they don't go reviewing games that aren't even released yet---"It's going to be terrible." Great. What's the winning Powerball number for next week?

Open up your mind. Don't come to random, prejudiced conclusions about the world. You'll enjoy life a lot more.

hurm

for the older generation that grew up before ff7...we would never say 7was the best
the huge marketing of ff7 brainwashed the whole ps1 generation in the west
for the younger generations...i dont think you will disslike ff13
it got alot of good things and its not awful like everyone keeps saying
its just that they are still stuck in the imaginary world that told them that FF7 and in some cases FF8 is the best game ever made
and nothing can live up to this lie

IMO online games dont really have good stories...they have very bland stories and live on the fact that alot of ppl play them together...and thats what makes it more fun

so if you are to pick i would go with FF13
the story is actually not that bad...and if you allow it...kind of engaging


stay away from persona games...they are all terrible hipster games

the older generation would say that FF 3,4 and 6 are the best in the series
