You should really read Magician. The story follows the childhood friends since chapter 1 and the guy has been in love with the girl since like forever, but there is no romantic development until season 2. The manhwa is really good, the childhood friends pairing is just the icing on the cake bigrazz

Btw, did you read this? Lying Mii-kun and Broken Maa-chan: Precious Lies

Has childhood friends too, but the protagonist's feelings are ambiguous. It's more mindfuck than anything though lol

Just finished catchng up on Magician. As a romance story between childhood friends, it's great since we actually got to see what their childhood phases were like, in great details. It's rare gem since that phase is usually just glossed over or briefly mentioned in flashback in most other series. I can only wonder why the hell it doesn't have a "childhood friend/s" tag O_o

I read Lying Mii-kun long ago. They weren't childhood friends. In fact,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
the girl's real childhood friend was killed years ago by the kidnapper. The boy, the kidnapper's son, pretended to be the childhood friend to save her from a mental breakdown. Yeah, the title freaking spoils everything

Yeah, but they've known each other since the incident, which pretty much counts as being childhood acquaintances in some way. Either that or my memory is tricking me.

NG Life
Kyou mo Ashita mo (very limited English scanlated chapters)

The following two are shounen and the romance is mostly implied rather than shown, but it's definitely there.
Fullmetal Alchemist
Kekkaishi

I just read [m]Lying Mii-kun[/m] What are you talking about?
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The girl's real childhood friend wasn't killed. He was was also affected mentally after the incident to the extent that he doesn't really remember Mayu any more. He is the serial murderer in the recent kidnapping cases. When they were kidnapped 10 years ago the perpetrator happens to be Mii-kun's father who happened to go insane when he concocted the kidnapping and killing according to Mii-kun. Mii-kun on the other had been with Mayu ever since the incident making him just as much of a childhood friend as her her childhood friend during the incident. He was with her all these years partly because he felt resposible because his father was the cause of Mayu's suffering.
