Never read it so I'm only going by the description alone but it sounds a bit like Candidate for goddess, although its mecca, which Knight run doesn't seem to be.
Otherwise Gantz? in terms of a group of people chosen to defend humanity from aliens...They have swords sometimes too....

I read Gantz already but im looking for something with a main lead and a lot of action that is not to old 2000-2013. Thank you for the help though.
