Hello, I was looking around the tag and phrase searches and didn't have much luck. I am seeking a series that explores a romance between a human man and an alien woman. Apologies if I sound clumsy, I am not used to seeking help about manga and this is the first time I have searched for something this specific.

To elaborate a little, it does not need to be from a specific time period (present, near-present, far-future, past). Also while most seem to have an Earth-based plot, which is fine, I would not mind something sci-fi/space in nature in the vein of Mass Effect or similar. I sort of hope to find something where outside forces/views would agitate against the union, but that is far from necessary.

One of the more critical aspects I am looking for is the "alien-ness" of the alien. Having a disguise or human form is fine, but not if it is used for 97.9% of the story. I am looking for something where the otherness of the alien has a noticeable impact on the developing romance, and possibly the overarching plotline(s). I do not have any specific genres in mind as I write this; I have found at least something to enjoy in nearly all of them to be honest.

As far as things I would like to avoid; I am not a fan of one-sided relationships. I hope I can find something where each person develops and matures alongside the other. I am also hesitant whenever I see a harem tag, but I can't rule them out. Ecchi situations/art does not influence me one way or the other. I am not a fan of tragic endings, but harsh trials during the story don't bother me. Speaking of ecchi, I hope to find a series that does not culminate the developing relationship as: "they spent the night, now there is no more need to evolve or mature their feelings".

As I type this out, I realize just how specific my preferences are. For length, I would hope for something decently long. As far as art goes, I don't have any set preferences. I will say that I enjoy the art in Trinity Blood more than many other styles.

Any tips or gentle shoves in the right direction would be appreciated. smile

Since someone already mentioned Oh, My Sweet Alien!

Level E - I'm ashamed that I forgot about this wonderful series. Pretty much you have a prince who runs away from his home planet and 'lost' his memories. Really he's a genius and so bored he likes to make things interesting. Things do get serious once in awhile but it's mostly comedy and those unfortunate to be part of the Prince's games. It will also give you a glimpse into the life style of other aliens.

It's not really romance either sadly. The last few chapters are but more Alien + Alien romance-ish? I still liked it though. XD

You should check Kiseijuu (Parasyte) if you want this otherness you are looking for. Romance isn't the focus of the manga, but there are some intriguing relationships which I think you'll like.

Super Dreadnought Girl is nice but it is a harem.

If you don't know them already you could try Seikai no Monshou (Novel) and Seikai no Senki (Novel). They have been adapted to anime. The aliens are very human-like (pretty much they are space elves) but it's still a decent read/watch and the romance is rather nice.

To be honest, I've never read it, so I have no idea if it fits your request (apart from the female alien/male human romance), but Urusei Yatsura maybe?

DearS - a manga about alien slaves that crash land on earth and are welcomed as foreigners. Takashi, the male lead, is coming home one day when he meets a DearS that imprints on him and becomes his "slave". Trouble followes as Takashi learns from the DearS named Ren and has to figure out why she acts the way she does.

That is my own summary without giving away too much of a plot. It is kinda a one side love but by they end Both know each others feelings and it ends kinda rushed, but is still really good ending (in my opinion).

Yome Ga Kore Na Monde - a manga about an alien and male human's life together after they have been married. The love is already their, but it grows a little more. Really really short, but still a good read.

Well... this one doen't really match what you are asking, but I really liked it: Ashita Dorobou. Check the categories to see and perhaps one chapter or two.

Good luck.

Thank you for the replies so far.

These look to be some very good suggestions. Oh, My Sweet Alien is the only one I have read before and I enjoyed it despite it's brevity. I do not have much experience with romances involving very different species such as how Parasyte appears to be, but I confess myself interested as well.

I was trying to find more leads to explain myself when I referred to "developing romance" and I suddenly remembered Superior and Superior Cross. Despite not involving the Human/Alien I am looking for, it is a superb (in my opinion) example of two interesting characters building a story together. Even if she did not often explore/reveal her true nature (as I recall) it played a large part in both the relationship and the plot.
