His movie was pretty good.

You might argue that any musician or group that develops a sizeable fan base tends to be largely overrated. Simply because you get that gaggle of people screaming about how great they are. This applies to awesome bands as much as it does to crappy ones.

Guess what?

Led Zeppelin is overrated.

They're still awesome on all counts, though.

The point being, I could list bands all day and all night, and never complete that list.

Of course, I guess it also depends on your stance on the topic.

Sad to say, but, Linkin Park. They're good....but why is it people like to use their songs for their AMV's? >.<

Because in the end, it doesn't even matter

The Beatles.

Very important, and in terms of greatness, the greatest, because they are likely the most influential musicians in history since the great classical composers. But as good as people say? The Beatles'...their shit doesn't smell like roses and people refuse to realize this by sticking their head in the sand, properly clogging the nose; they've had bad songs--more than a few--as well.

I see where you're getting at but ...
It s still funny of you to point out the fact they're overrated and in the meantime acknowlege they're the greatest band ever.... biggrin I mean is there something really above greatest band ever ? in my opinion they're just slightly overrated . You know it's not even about music : regarding the music of the band I even like to consider that Queen is better as long as we're talking about mainstream rock band music.

If you knew but a bit more English, you'd also know that there is a difference between greatness and goodness. "Great" is, in formal usage, a reference to power (i.e., the influence The Beatles have had since they came about); "good" is an actual reference to quality. In fact, one reason they were and are so great is that they are so overrated--it gives them more influence than they deserve for the quality of their music. So The Beatles, while the greatest, are certainly nowhere near the best, though many people would disagree--and so, they are overrated.

There are a great many musical acts that I would call better than The Beatles; however, they are not as revolutionary and as a result many people haven't heard any of their work; furthermore while the ocean is the same size, there are a lot more fish in the sea, making it far more difficult for any one group to generate the vise that The Beatles held over the music industry during their heyday.

And as a side note, only part of the credit for high charting solo work goes to the artists; the rest must be given to the fact that they were riding on the coattails of the biggest name in Rock history: The Beatles.

Eminem. God i hate Eminem, he raps about the same shit over and over and the only crap that spews from his mouth is hateful filth. I don't like his whiny voice and he his flow is lacking. Not sure why people love him?

Actually, unless you've got a pretty widespread knowledge of music, you're probably underestimating Eminem. His better songs borrow lyrics and rhythms from older, more classic songs in a wide range of genres(not in the plagiarism sense, but more of a tribute) and show a surprising knowledge of rhythm and beat.

agreed. In the scope of a predominantly Black genre, for an MC of his raw skill, rhythm and timing to appear is not entirely common, much less for said MC to be White. He is the best white MC to gain mainstream success. However, many people who are not familiar with Hip Hop will listen to Eminem because of his skin color. That is just the way that things are.

Anyway, as far as the Beatles, they did not really do any innovation until their later careers. Most of their earlier work is based off blues works of the 50s. All they really did was shave off the sharp edges and make it more presentable. The Rolling Stones were a straightforward blues band in the first place, so they are overrated as well, as much of their early work were covers of Blues songs.

Eric Clapton is overrated.

I forgot to mention that Nirvana is overrated.

I cringe every time somebody says that Cobain's songs have some deep meaning and the like.

Just look at this:

"A mulatto, an albino
A mosquito, my libido"

Yeah, greatest song writer of a generation! Right?

I'll take Blind Melon over Nirvana any day when I want early nineties grunge.

Thank you. I had said that earlier than you though... although I was waiting for reactions before I explicated. BTW Alice in Chains and Mudhoney> All other grunge.

Agreed

Nickelback.

Oh wait, that's too obvious. How about the entire gangster rap genre (and everyone in it)?

I agree with nickleback, but the ENTIRE gangster rap genre, there are actually a few really good ones who give us the beleif that someday rap can turn around and outdo its hayday.

Kiddie rock bands like Good Charlotte, Sum 41, and the kiddiest of all, Simple Plan -.-

Good Charlotte and Simple Plan saying they are overrated is a great understatment. I like Sum 41, Chuck is a great album.

The Beatles.

I agree. Everyone's worshiping the ground they walk on. They're being treated like the best band in history. I just don't get it. I'm not saying they're not good, I'm just saying all the worshiping is a tad too much.

And to add to the list: Avril Lavigne (she calls herself a rocker?), Korn (I just don't get it), and Incubus.

I have they same opinion of Led Zepplin, Razril. And i also agree with your additions, though i enjoy early Korn and Incubus greatly.

Metallica after Cliff Burton died are crap.

Aerosmith. Am I supposed to feel weird cause I'm the only one claiming they suck?

definitely, AIC is my favorite band to come out of the grunge era, with blind melon not far behind. also on that list of bands better than nirvana IMO, STP, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Smashing Pumpkins.. though i'm sure i'm leaving out a lot

Meet Me in the Bathroom On The Other side; Alone, Together, we'll talk about this Modern Age's garage rock.

Or were you referring to the old stuff and not the recent resurgence?

I just scanned, so I might repeat a few.
Um, he's technically not a band I think, but more of a solo artist.
Bright eyes? I like the guy, but I've heard from lots of people
he's a genius or whatever...I like a couple songs here and there
but I don't worship him or anything.

Blink 182 is another over-rated band I think. In my opinion at least.
Does this go out to solo artists to? IF SO HANNAH MONTANA
SHOULD WIN THIS AWARD D: I'M SICK AND TIRED OF IT!
EVEN BARBARA WALTERS INTERVIEWED HER. WHAT HAS THE WORLD
COME TO!? Yeah, to end this rant...
The All American Rejects maybe? I like them, but I've heard
so many things from fangirls...
